Tips & Techniques Equip & Tools Riedel Vinum Collection

Founded in 1756, the family-owned Riedel glassworks in Austria was the first to design wineglasses whose shapes are customized for a particular type of wine. Tenth-generation glassmaker Georg Riedel designed the Vinum collection with input from vintners and wine experts worldwide. The stemware's varietal-specific bowls enhance a wine's bouquet and direct the flow of liquid over the palate's taste zones, balancing sugar, acid, alcohol and tannins so that no single component dominates. Rims are cut and polished, rather than rolled, to ensure the precise flow. The 24 percent lead crystal glasses offer superb clarity to showcase a wine's true color and texture.
