Agrarian Registry Favorites

Agrarian Registry Favorites make fabulous gifts for novice, experiences or somewhere in between gardeners. We have some out-of-the-ordinary gift ideas at Williams-Sonoma that make gardening simple. We have equipment that helps with raising chickens, beekeeping, composting and planting in big or small spaces.

Raising chickens provides a ready supply of fresh eggs loaded with vitamins and nutrients. A cedar chicken coop with a galvanized metal room is a posh home for up to six happy hens. The mesh enclosure keeps them safely inside and a runner gives them plenty of room to roam. There is a place on the roof to plant a small garden. This is a terrific spot to plant hardy herbs for cooking. Flavorful herbs like oregano, basil and rosemary add flavor to egg dishes and other foods. Plant sage for dressings and stuffings. Mint is superb for tea or mojitos. It can be invasive, but the enclosed area on the roof keeps it contained.

Beehive starter kits walk a beekeeping newbie through the process. Drawers pull out with honeycombs filled with sweet honey. Protective clothing, including a helmet and gloves, and tools are included for safety. Honey gathered from the backyard seems to taste sweeter and has multiple health benefits. Local honey can help with seasonal allergies. It can be used as a salve on cuts and burns. The antimicrobial qualities ward off germs. Use cylindrical jars or mini glass jars to store your honey. The jars have air-tight lids so the honey will stay fresh longer. The jars are decorative too, so you can share your honey supply with friends and neighbors.

Composters are useful, eco-friendly gifts that turn food scraps in nutrients for the soil. Designed with proper ventilation, air circulates throughout the composter to ventilate for decomposition, which is key. Removable panels simply turning the soil. Gardening gloves and a gardening toolbox pair well with the composter as a special gift. The toolbox stores trowels, gloves, fertilizers and other tools that are used in gardening. The compost will help in growing a productive crop while enlisting Mother Nature’s expertise with sunlight and rain.

Raised wooden or metal beds make gardening easy to do on a patio or porch. You don’t have to worry about digging through tough tree roots or hard dirt to plant a garden. Find a sunny spot for the raised bed. Add some soil and you’re ready to plant. You might want to begin with the basics to sow seeds of herbs, flowers, salad greens or tomatoes. Watching seedlings spring to life is such a gratifying experience for a gardener. The kits are quite helpful with guidance for how to plant, water and when to plant based on the calendar and the weather. Use planters or pots indoors to get the seeds started.

Vertical gardening is an artistic way to grow plants and decorate at the same time. Freestanding gardens or chalkboard designs work well on any wall. The chalkboard garden allows you to write on it to identify the plants. Succulents and herbs do very well in vertical gardens. Natural wreaths and garlands are another decorative way to display the love of gardening in your home. Eucalyptus, lavender and bay leaves are tastefully elegant and emit a lovely fragrance. Seasonal wreaths and garlands are a festive way to celebrate holidays and the changing of the seasons. Hang a wreath on your front door and a garland above the fireplace mantel or a stairwell. Dried, colorful fruits with harvested greenery are ideal for summer, acorns and leaves in the fall, white statice or pussy willow in winter and wildflowers in the spring. Culinary herb wreaths or sprays are terrific in a kitchen all year long.
