Tips & Techniques Baking & Desserts Decorating Garden Patch Cakelets
Decorating Garden Patch Cakelets
Bring our garden patch cakelets to life by decorating them with tinted royal icing and candies. Kids will be begging to eat their veggies!

Carrots: Drizzle orange royal icing over the carrots, then run the blunt end of a toothpick or skewer across the frosting to create horizontal lines in the carrots. To decorate the carrot tops, use a pastry bag fitted with a leaf decorating tip and pipe either thick green royal icing or buttercream. Then dip the tops in green decorating sugar.

Cabbages: Spoon green royal icing over the cabbages. To create the ruffled edges, use a pastry bag fitted with a leaf decorating tip and pipe either thick green royal icing or buttercream.

Radishes: Thin out red royal icing with a little milk and brush the radishes with the icing. Then roll each radish in pink decorating sugar to achieve a dark, rich color. To create the top leaves on the radishes, cut green sour tape candy into leaf shapes and secure them in place with royal icing.

Pea Pods: Decorate the pea pods with the rounded tops of green gumdrops, and the pods with green sour tape candy, securing the candy with royal icing or buttercream. To create the leaves, use a pastry bag fitted with a leaf decorating tip and pipe either thick green royal icing or buttercream.

Finally, you can "plant" the veggies in a bed of crushed chocolate wafer cookies so it looks like they are in a garden.
