Diestel Lemon Herb Brined Whole Turkey, Thanksgiving Delivery, 6-10lbs

At the Diestel Family Turkey Ranch in Sonora, California, four generations of farmers have been sustainably raising high-quality birds since 1949. Diestel turkeys are slow-grown, given room to roam and raised on 100% privately milled vegetarian feed. This brined whole turkey is infused with Diestel's savory lemon-herb blend, then coated with sea salt, fresh herbs and lemon zest. After roasting in the oven for a few hours, the bird emerges tender and juicy, accented with bright citrus flavor.

Receiving Instructions

• Turkey ships fresh with ice packs to arrive chilled. Upon receipt, store in refrigerator for up to 5 days or in freezer for up to 1 year. 

Thawing Instructions

• If turkey will be cooked within a day, we recommend softening in a cold water bath. Allow approx. 30 minutes per pound. Submerge turkey in original bag in cold tap water. Change water every 30 minutes until turkey is thawed. Cook turkey immediately after it is thawed. If turkey will be cooked in 2–3 days, we recommend softening in refrigerator for 2 days. 

Preparation Instructions

• Roasting times may vary depending on your oven. 
• If turkey is not stuffed, decrease roasting time by approx. 30 minutes. 
• Preheat oven to 325°F. Remove turkey from bag. After removing neck and giblets from body cavity, rinse bird with cold water. Pat dry with paper towels. Stuff turkey, if desired. Place turkey in open roasting pan, breast side up. Cover bottom of pan with approx. 2 cups of water or broth. Place pan in oven and roast for 2 1/2–3 1/2 hours, until internal temperature reaches 165°F. The internal temperature typically increases more rapidly during last half of roasting. We recommend checking internal temperature throughout roasting to make sure turkey is not overcooked.
• Do not turn bird while roasting; it will brown to a rich, golden color. Place foil tent loosely over turkey during last hour of roasting to prevent over-browning. When turkey reaches desired internal temperature, remove it from oven. Cover and let stand for at least 15 minute before carving.
