Chef & the Farmer
Vivian Howard grew up in eastern North Carolina, but when she moved to New York City, she vowed she’d never return. After she cooked with some of the country’s best chefs, Vivian’s parents offered to help her and her husband open their restaurant. The only catch? They’d have to move back to North Carolina.
Today, Vivian and her husband, Ben Knight, own Chef & the Farmer, a progressive eatery that highlights the region’s culinary traditions, in Kinston, NC. The two of them also star in the Peabody Award-winning show A Chef’s Life, which explores their life raising twins and exploring the disappearing foodways of the South, one ingredient at a time.
