Garden Gift Crates
Garden gift crates are several gifts in one. The crate itself is reusable for storing or displaying items in your kitchen or on your patio. Your gift recipient can plant an ivy in a pot and let it grow through the slats in the crate for a distinctive yet natural decoration. Use it in the garden to gather herbs and flowers or to store gardening gloves and pruning shears.
An olive gift crate includes a potted arbequina olive tree, a bottle of olive oil, hand cream and soap. The one year old tree can be planted outside or kept in a pot on your patio or sunroom. This olive tree typically grows quickly, so you might want to recommend planting it in a good size container. Our cement pots are sturdy and can be used inside or out. With a little TLC the tree will produce its own fruit at about three years old. The bottle of extra virgin olive oil has a buttery, peppery taste. Toss it in pasta for added pungent flavor and to keep the pasta moist. Try the pasta sampler to experiment with different pastas. Aside from the tree and olive oil, the crate includes a hypoallergenic olive and avocado oil hand cream. There’s also a paraben-free bar of soap made of goat’s milk and coconut oil for luxuriant pampering.
The fig crate includes a fig tree, fig balsamic vinegar and fig jam. The easy to grow fig tree can be grown inside in a pot or planted in the yard. The tasty fig balsamic vinegar can be used on salad greens, kale and collards, or sprinkled on prepared foods. We have entrees and sides that have been prepared ahead of time that can be shipped to you from Williams-Sonoma. Many of the sides, like green beans or herb stuffing, would be complemented with a dash or two of fig balsamic vinegar. The vinegar adds a little zest with sweetness. The fig jam seasoned with cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and lemon for an out of the ordinary flavor boost. The jam is delicious spread on croissants and pastries. Classic mini croissants are small morsels that will melt in your mouth, so you might want more than one. Our everything croissants are loaded with flavor. Or try the hazelnut or almond croissants spread with the jam. Breakfast or brunch just moved up a notch.
Another gift crate has a Meyer lemon tree, lemon sea salt, lemon and citron jam, plus a Weck jar for lemon preserves. The Meyer lemon tree is ornamental because of its beauty, but it also produces fruit after a couple of years. Its thin-skinned fruit is a cross between a lemon and an orange. The sea salt is made of dried lemon peels with Hawaiian sea salt for a tasty rub or seasoning. Put some on smoked salmon or lobster tails. The salt brings out the natural flavors in the fish and adds a little zing to it. A dash or two of the salt is ideal for seasoning asparagus, Brussel sprouts and orzo too. The lemon and citron jam is just the right amount of sweet and tart. The mixture is wonderful to serve with hors d’oeuvres like vegetable flatbreads, seafood pinwheels or ham and cheese bites. Serve the jam in a small bowl beside the appetizers or place a dollop on top. A Weck jar has an air-tight seal so you can use it to make your own lemon preserves. It can also be used to store leftovers in the refrigerator. The clear glass allows you to see what’s inside without having to lift the lid.
Whichever gift crate you choose, the recipient is bound to love it. Just tie a festive bow around the crate and it makes a fabulous presentation for birthdays, holidays, anniversaries or just because.
