Tips & Techniques Holidays Warming Brews for Halloween
Kids shouldnt have the monopoly on fun for Halloween. On this most frightful of nights, why not host a party and invite ghosts and goblins of all ages? Then brew up some bewitching beverages and raise a toast to an evening of spirited fun.

For the grown-ups, offer hot mulled cider laced with Calvados and fragrant with sweet spices. Hot buttered rum and Irish coffee are always crowd-pleasers on chilly autumn nights. When young trick-or-treaters step in from the cold, warm them up with mugs of steaming old-fashioned hot cocoa. Who knows, they might be persuaded to share their treats with you.

Its easy to serve warm beverages to a crowd. You can place a cauldron (or large pot) on the stove with a ladle and let everyone help themselves; the simmering brew will perfume the house and entice crowds into the kitchen. For large gatherings and buffets, thermal carafes will keep drinks toasty warm throughout the evening. Place bowls filled with garnishes, such as marshmallows and cinnamon sticks, alongside. Be sure to label the carafes to identify the contents, especially if youll also be serving tea and coffee.
