Design Your Next Leather Sectional

Selecting new furniture for your home is one of the most fun things about interior design. When you've decided to choose a leather sectional for your living room, home theater or game room, you have a few points to consider. Make shopping fun and easy with Williams Sonoma's The Leather Shop.

What Is A Leather Sectional?

A leather sectional is a large, sofa comprising sections made of leather. Each section can be used on its own as a sofa, chair or chaise.

  • Sectionals can be either right-arm facing or left-arm facing, meaning you can add the arm to one side or the other.
  • The other side of your sectional won't have an arm, because that's where you place another section, like a chaise lounge or a corner seat for a wraparound look.
  • You can select sectional elements to place around your room, too. Put bigger furnishings where you have more space and smaller sectional elements in corners or by doors.

Which Style of Sectional Is Best?

Picking the style of sectional for your home is a matter of space and taste. Since these furnishings tend to take up a lot of room, you'll want to choose a wide, open expanse of your home.

  • Decide on whether you'll go with right-arm or left-arm facing to start. This will determine which pieces you need to get.
  • Chaise lounges are amazing for stretching out, facing forward, getting ergonomic support and feeling cozy. The terminal or edge at the end doesn't have any arms or other adornments for a clean look, too.
  • Corner pieces that extend around are right for big families, couples who love to entertain and dramatic frames around coffee tables or indoor fire pits.
  • If you have a statement furnishing to frame or you've styled your coffee table with an important look, a big U-shaped sectional is gorgeous.

How Many Pieces Your Sectional Needs

The number of pieces you need for your sectional is based on space, but also on the specific style of sectional you choose.

  • For instance, if you choose a style that has longer pieces in general, you may find that you need less of them.
  • If you've chosen the chaise lounge, that's a single section, but it's a big one.
  • When you go with a U-shaped sectional, you'll need the center sofa, two corners and whatever side pieces you choose. Maybe it takes up the same amount of space on one side as having a chaise, but it's more pieces.

If you're set on this beautiful, versatile way of furnishing your home, but still have questions or just want the guidance of an interior decorating professional, make an appointment with Williams Sonoma for a complimentary design services consultation.
