Grilled Tri-Tip with Kona Coffee BBQ Sauce
Beef tri-tip is great for serving a crowd, and our recipe makes it super-simple to prepare. Just season the meat with salt and pepper and cook on an outdoor grill. About 10 minutes before the tri-tip is done, slather it with our Kona Coffee BBQ Sauce. Inspired by Hawaiian pitmasters, the sauce blends sweet tomatoes and brown sugar with garlic, smoky spices, red chile peppers and a hint of Kona coffee and cocoa.
Ingredients:
- 2 lb. (1 kg) beef tri-tip
- Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
- 1 red onion, cut into 8 wedges
- 1 bottle Kona Coffee BBQ Sauce
Directions:
Prepare a medium-hot fire in a grill. Place an outdoor fry pan on the grill to preheat.
Season the tri-tip generously with salt and pepper. Place the tri-tip and the onion in the preheated fry pan and cook, turning once halfway through, until the onion is tender and an instant-read thermometer inserted into the center of the meat registers 130°F (54°C) for medium-rare, 20 to 25 minutes. During the last 10 minutes of cooking, generously brush the tri-tip with some of the BBQ sauce.
Transfer the tri-tip to a carving board, cover loosely with aluminum foil and let rest for 10 minutes. Slice the meat against the grain and arrange on a platter with the onion. Pass the remaining BBQ sauce at the table. Serves 6.
