- More about Staub
Staub traces its origin to the Alsace region of France, where founder Francis Staub designed his first enameled pot while working in an old French artillery factory in 1974. With the goal of creating the perfect pot for cooking the region's traditional hearty soups, stews and braises, he combined cast iron, the most popular material of the time, with the latest enameling technology available. Today, Staub still makes its cookware at a traditional atelier in France, casting each pot in an individual sand mold, which is heated to 800°F and destroyed after use. The exterior enamel coating is made with glass powder and mineral pigments, applied in two or three coats to generate brilliant glossy colors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by GrandmaA from Just love this! I bought this over a year ago, and just love it. The color is just like the picture. It is Staub at it’s best. I must confess I still have not cooked in it, as I use it all of the Fall season as an ornament in the middle of the table. Everyone comments on how beautiful it is. I do have other Staub products I use frequently, so I know someday I will use it...so beautiful to just set in the middle of the table....Date published: 2019-11-11Rated 5 out of 5 by LeNanH from A Gorgeous Piece This is beautiful, an excellent weight and a stunning piece for any seasonally inspired kitchen. I love it.Date published: 2019-11-04Rated 5 out of 5 by Martha from Beautiful piece I have been admiring this for quite a while now, and finally decided to treat myself to the 3 1/2 quart size. It arrived today and I could not be more pleased. I haven’t used it for cooking yet but it is a feast for the eyes. The pumpkin color is stunning.Date published: 2019-10-24Rated 1 out of 5 by RedCanCook from Poor quality control I also received a pumpkin cocotte with small pinholes that needed to be exchanged. Very poor quality control! Also the handle looks great but is very slippery and is angled such that it can slide right out of your hand when picking it up. You have to be carful when you are simmering/boiling with the cocotte when you remove the lid.Date published: 2019-09-25Rated 3 out of 5 by VeggiePie from Review of Burnt Orange Color If you've been following along in my quest to find a Staub Pumpkin Cocotte without an unacceptable number of flaws, here's my advice: stay away from the white color. I received the burnt orange color. It's really pretty. While I would prefer a white one, the burnt orange will have to do. The white pumpkin has far too many flaws. Take a look at the photos in this review and compare them to my 2 previous reviews. While the burnt orange pumpkin cocotte is not without its flaws, they are acceptable to me. In the photos you'll notice both handles are missing some paint. Apparently, that is normal for the rounded handles on the pumpkin cocotte? On both the top and the bottom of the cocotte there is a brown spot. It looks like debris/contamination. It's annoying, but not horrible. I own 3 Staub Cast-Iron Round Cocottes in 3 sizes; a 9QT in Grenadine; a 7QT in Turquoise; and a 4QT in Sapphire Blue. It's hit or miss with quality. The sapphire blue and turquoise cocottes were both flawless. The grenadine cocotte is missing a strip of grenadine on one of the handles. Something I didn't notice until after the 30-day return window. If you care about flaws (I recognize some people do not) then you will want to inspect each piece you purchase closely. If flaws bother you, they will bother you every time you cook in the pot. I would recommend this to a friend, but with reservations due to quality control issues. Happy Shopping!Date published: 2019-09-13Rated 1 out of 5 by VeggiePie from Updated Review I just received the replacement for the white 5 QT pumpkin cocotte I posted about previously under the handle "VeggiePie." I'm writing a new review because I wanted to show the defects this pumpkin has as well. I don't think I received a one-off given the replacement has even more defects than the one I originally ordered--to include pitting on the bottom and two weird brown spots that don't come off on the lid. I am planning on purchasing an orange 5 QT next. I really want one of these things. Silly as that might sound after all of this. Of course, I'll post a review. Lastly, another reviewer mentioned her orange pumpkin cocotte had a brown hue. I second that. I've seen it in person and it does have a deep orange hue that could be interpreted as brownish. It is not the natural orange color most would associate with a pumpkin from the grocery store. Also, the orange pumpkin I saw in person did not have the pitting I've seen on both the white pumpkins I've received. Although the underside of the handles on the orange pumpkin were missing some orange glaze. Just not to the extent seen on the white pumpkins.Date published: 2019-09-06Rated 1 out of 5 by VeggiePie from Poor Quality Control; WS Customer Service Lacking I've been wanting a Staub pumpkin cocotte for a couple years and finally decided to get a white one. I was so excited to get it in the mail today. When I opened the box and saw the lid, my excitement turned to disappointment. The lid had one cluster of small pinholes and another area that looked like sand painted over. My disappointment deepened when I saw both handles were missing paint on the inside. As if receiving a defective item isn't enough of a disappointment, my call to William Sonoma Customer Service did not improve the situation. The WS customer service representitive decided that instead of letting me order a second pumpkin right away (which I asked to do at my own expense so I could get it soonest) they would send one out to me when they receive my return. I called WS back and spoke to another representitive hoping they would help me when I asked for "advanced replacement" (their term, not mine) option mentioned in the return confirmation email they sent me. It is as if the representitive didn't hear me. She told me that my replacement would be sent out when they received my order. Enough of this! I'm going to order another white pumpkin cocette online so I can receive it soonest. Yes, I'll have to make a special trip to my local WS store to return the pumpkin they send as a replacement. But, at least I'll get the item sooner and it will be a lot less hassle than dealing with WS customer service.Date published: 2019-08-29Rated 5 out of 5 by Ellie from Amazing I love everything about this product… Great addition to my collection.Date published: 2019-01-26
