Rated 4 out of 5 by krankenheim from All sides excellently usable - Hard to clean While yes, as other reviewers said this box grater is hard to clean, it also does an excellent job on all grating surfaces. When doing cheese, or anything else that leaves a residue/film on the blades, I suggest immediately rinsing with hot water and into the dishwasher. I don't even know if this is dishwasher safe, I have noticed the black plastic beginning to fade so I would say it's probably not. I don't use heat in the dishwasher so I assume this is from harsh dishwashing chemicals. Otherwise, it is also a little on the large side so it takes up storage room. Ultimately it's a good grater if you have room to store it and the expectation that box graters are usually difficult to clean regardless of brand.Date published: 2019-01-21Rated 1 out of 5 by Cookbookgirl from Original model much better! I bought this last summer for our beach house and was very disappointed. I had to muscle the Parmesan cheese to get it grated. It is also hard to clean. The original model I have at home with metal frame, rubber footings and no bottom is so much sharper and efficient - please get that one back! (5427117) sku still on the storage case on the one I love!Date published: 2018-10-10Rated 1 out of 5 by MTkatie from Impossible to clean We have been using this for a few months and are generally unhappy with this product. It's impossible to clean. Not impressed and am definitely wishing I had just gone with a william sonoma branded box grater.Date published: 2018-03-17Rated 5 out of 5 by Texas Girl from Love Have used four times in a week. Love this fabulous grater.Date published: 2017-12-16Rated 5 out of 5 by Mobrum24 from Love this grater I've had this grater for about a year and I LOVE using it. It's sturdy and great quality. Love that it has a bottom that slides open so cheese stays inside until you're ready to use it. Don't even look at any other graters, this is the one you want.Date published: 2016-01-09Rated 5 out of 5 by Grandpagolf from Smooth as silk The Microplane Box Grater is as good as they get. Easy to use, easy to clean and slicing and grating are superb.Date published: 2015-08-27Rated 1 out of 5 by foodphreak from Worst Grater Ever! After having such good luck using the small hand graters from Microplane I was excited to see this new "box" grater from them as well. I got it home and removed the protective plastic covering each metal part of the grater. On to carrots. It took two to three times longer to grate two carrots for a salad I was preparing, than the old, almost worn out Norpro box grater that I've had for thirty plus years. Then came the really bad part of using this ill-designed piece of kitchen gear.......trying to wash all of the carrots bits off of the inside of the grater. We are now in a severe drought condition and, because the top of the grater is closed you end up washing the food "into" the grater instead of out of it and wasting a lot of water in the process. We'll gladly go back to using our old grater and consign this new one to the trash.Date published: 2015-08-21Rated 5 out of 5 by Chimera from Great upgrade, if you know how! I had the old microplane and was never really in love with it. I thought I would give this update a try. I first used it for grating some cheese for a casual get together for friends and after a couple of glasses of wine I was bitterly disappointed. I had to really force the cheese which seemed to crumble and smear rather than grate. Admittedly my kitchen is poorly lit and I hadn't noticed the fine film on the grater. Once that was off it did an excellent job. It's much taller and therefore provided greater leverage. It's also much sturdier than its predecessor also. It grated a large block of cheese in 2 minutes. The cup measurements on the side are very helpful. All other graters have been relegated from my kitchen. Just don't use it after a couple of drinks!Date published: 2015-05-02
