It’s a very expensive product, coffee is not very hot, carafe breaks easily, and the customer support is terrible. You need to know that you have to descale the unit at least once per month. Besides the machine telling you to descale, you will know because your coffee will be lukewarm. The descaling packages are not cheap. Had I known how frequently I would have had to descale, I would not have bought this machine. Further, if you make less than 6 cups of coffee, the plate does not heat up enough to give you a piping hot brew. I was impressed with the many features like adjustable water temp and blooming capabilities. Initially, I was so pleased that I subsequently bought Breville Microwave and a Breville Toaster. The coffee maker worked fine for a little over 3 months, then the heating element that keeps the coffee warm after brewing stopped working. I contacted the company, and since the unit was still under warranty, they agreed to replace it which I received within a week. The second unit failed within a week of receiving it with the exact same heating element problem. In addition to that issue, the brewing water temp was lukewarm at best, even though the temp was set to 206 degrees. In both cases both units worked fine out of the box. In the case of both units, I performed factory resets, power down resets, and custom settings resets multiple times to no avail. Why they would send a defective replacement unit is beyond me. The company offered to send me a third unit, but I had lost faith at that point. The odds of receiving 2 defective units that did not last beyond the warranty period are astronomically high. This company does not give refunds, only in-store credit for toward a Breville product , so unless I play the Breville Coffee Maker lottery, I am left with a useless coffee maker that requires using a microwave before I can drink a first or second cup of coffee…and I am out nearly $300. Does this coffee maker have true water measurements? In my current Breville model, 6 cups programmed does NOT equal 6 cups coffee- closer to 3/4. There are settings to accommodate exactly this scenario, plus two different filters baskets for full pot vs. 40oz or less.
