He's a very picky, type-A, low-tolerance guy so I don't understand how he suffers through the agony of using this instrument. I hate it. All I want is a coffee machine that I can set to be ready when I wake up. This one does that, but at what cost? It wakes you with a horribly loud grinding noise; the area between the grinder and the basket is constantly getting compacted with grinds, especially as the steam from the basket leaks back up into the grinder area, requiring surgical intervention with a headlamp, butter knife, and vacuum to dislodge the grinds at early hours of the morning; it blows through beans at 1.5X the rate of a normal, drip coffee maker; and that's all after you've spent countless batches trying to titrate the ground size and strength. Sometimes machines don't make things easier. Save yourself and get a $30 coffee maker that reproducibly works without all the fuss.

Also, the company has TERRIBLE customer service, almost impossible to reach! This company should add a button to turn off the grinder when not needed and FIX THEIR “customer service!”. Don’t waste your money

    Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good while it lasted... I received this coffee make as a gift several Christmases ago from my Husband. It made great coffee while it lasted. I didn't begin to have issues with it until about a year and a half ago when I was making a large pot of coffee for a gathering I hosted at our home. When I used the machine on a daily basis it would always be for my husband and I so I would set the machine to brew between 6-7 cups worth of coffee into the carafe. When brewing between 10-12 cups, it would overflow. Over this past weekend, I had the same issue and finally said enough. I also have had multiple issues where the grind knob would stop working and it was a lengthy process with a phone call to Breville to get it to work again. Overall, I enjoyed the machine but I think for the brand and the price I would have expected it to last me a lot longer.

    Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too much maintenance I've had it now for 4 years. The big plus of it is that with the grinder on top you're saving some countertop space. I wish that the bean bin was bigger and would hold a full bag of beans. It doesn't, though, probably because it would start having problems fitting under cabinets. Some problems: - It has stainless steel but mine started showing specs of rust around it within the first year. It's just cosmetic but, for this price, you expect more. - As someone else noted, the maintenance is a pain. You need to constantly clean the chute and the disc/door so that the grounds will continue to drop out. An auger at that point would have gone a long way. Today, as I was trying to make coffee, I apparently didn't clean the disc/door and something was goofed up and ground coffee ended up all between the carafe and the machine. I think I'm done dealing with this coffee maker and will be moving on to a separate burr grinder and coffee maker. That one area is a huge flaw in the design of this coffee maker.

After years of using K-cup brewers, I finally have the taste of real coffee again. I’ve found the maintenance not too taxing, it looks great, and the beans grind to my specifications. What more could you want!

Very disappointed in the reliability. Made in China is not a good sign. I thought the other reviews about this machine were exaggerations but no...they were true.

    Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of money On my second one , the bean hopper plugged very easily on the first one. my second one we never used the bean grinder and after a year it now shows an error message of 01. 01 MEANS THE BEAN HOPPER IS PLUGGED, I will repeat, never used the grinder. The coffee pot will not work under any condition and Breville wants a $125.00 to fix it.. plus shipping.. Do yourself a favor.. DON`T BUY IT. !!!!!!! All I want is a Mr. Coffee.. @ $29.95 AND I CAN TOSS IT OUT WENT IT FAILS.

    We purchased the Breville Grind Control Coffee maker from W&S .....we cannot get rid of the error code stating it needs descaling.  We have cleaned it so many times with white vinegar and water as suggested. Is there another cleaner you recommend?

    One thing to make sure is that the machine is actually in descale mode. Make sure that once the tank is filled, the STRENGTH button is pressed and held for 5 seconds so that the process begins automatically. If that button is not held, the brewer is essentially just brewing a pot of coffee which won't clean the machine as intended and the process is not complete until the READY message appears on the screen. If the DESCALE message is still showing please contact our consumer support team for more in-depth troubleshooting and resolution.
