Banana Foster French Toast Recipe

Preheat an oven to 200ºF.

In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, cinnamon, milk, 1 Tbs. of the brown sugar and a pinch of salt until well combined. Pour half of the egg mixture into a deep pie dish. Soak 1 bread slice, turning once, for 1 to 2 minutes. Transfer to a plate. Repeat with the remaining bread and egg mixture. Gently pour any remaining egg mixture over the bread until absorbed.

In an 11-inch French skillet over medium heat, melt 1 1/2 Tbs. of the butter. Add 2 bread slices and cook, turning once, until golden, 2 to 3 minutes per side. Transfer to a wire cooling rack set over a baking sheet and keep warm in the oven. Repeat with 1 1/2 Tbs. of the butter and the remaining bread.

In a 9-inch French skillet over medium-high heat, melt the remaining 3 Tbs. butter. Add the bananas and cook, stirring occasionally, until lightly browned, 2 to 3 minutes. Carefully pour in the rum, then add the remaining 5 Tbs. brown sugar, the vanilla bean paste, water and a pinch of salt. Stir to coat the bananas evenly. Simmer until the bananas are soft and the sauce is thickened, 2 to 3 minutes.

Transfer the French toast to individual plates and top with the bananas. Serve immediately. Serves 4.

I sure am glad she did. These are marvelous. All-Clad is some exceptional cookware. The quality is just fascinating. It is so nice to have a product that lives up and exceeds expectation. They are a joy to use. I have had no issues with sticking. Probably a little heavier than the d3 but not too much to handle by no means. The handles, imo, are a bit of an upgrade over the d3's (Not knocking the d3s at all). I made potatoes cakes from leftover mashed potatoes. Crispy and beautiful. Everything that we have thrown at them has been perfect. I cannot say enough about the quality. Thank you WS and All-Clad

All of my All-Clad cookware are of the D5 line and the same high performance I have had with them has been the same with these. I made French toast the first time which I’ve never made in any stainless steel pan, including All-Clad. The French toast released perfectly from the pan without sticking. I applied a little butter to the pan first and my French toasts were amazing! I also cooking chicken in the 11 inch by first searing it in this pain and then transferring it to the oven to finish cooking. Again, my chicken was perfect! I used some EVOO and it worked out great! I also sautéed some veggies in the 9 inch which was great as well with a little EVOO. No complaints! I wouldn’t use these without some sort of saturaoaa they are not non stick but a little EVOO or butter goes along way with these babies! I love them and I believe you will, too! Clean up is as easy as non-stick! The quality is superb and size is good for a small meal for two or a meal for one with some leftovers.

    Rated 1 out of 5 by from All-Hype For this amount of money, I expected some sort of noticeable difference when cooking on my gas range compared to my old cheap Emeril stainless set. I bought this set for higher heat cooking and a non stick for med/low heat cooking. The All-Clad performed miserably when cooking Mongolian beef. The sticking was so bad it was sacrificing the searing of the beef, and I noticed no benefit in the cooking process. I cook 5 nights a week for my 4 boys, so I'm no rookie. Going to return these, I see no reason to keep them. Not a great first impression of All-Clad, All -Hype???

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Even Heat/Omelette King I LOVE my new skillets. These pans have the best heat distribution of any pan I've ever owned. The 9" is my go to now for omelettes. For those that claim eggs stick in these pans, they are wrong. My omelettes slide right out. Better than my old non stick Calphalon pans. Scrambled eggs turn out awesome too. Clean up isn't bad. I hand wash in soapy hot water and it's not bad at all. I'd say equivalent to any other pan. Pans have a very nice weight and look Amazing. You will not regret this purchase. I will add some photos the next time I fix omelettes.

    Rated 1 out of 5 by from what happened to All-Clad? I have 2 saucepans from All-clad and LOVE them! They are about 15 yrs old each and still absolutely perfect. I bought these french skillets and a new larger saucepan - the D5 series - never suspecting there was such a difference in quality. They cook great but are an absolute bear to clean. Even steaming broccoli requires 15 min of scrubbing residue off the insides of the pans and making pancakes in the skillets was even worse - 20 minutes and I had to resort to barkeeper's friend! I am a seasoned & skilled cook - these pans are awful. Only buy if you enjoy spending lots of time scrubbing. Done with the "new" all-clad and their customer service is dismal. They could not have cared less about feedback. I guess I will donate them to the Salvation Army because I am done with them.

  • Does using non stick cooking spray ruin this pan? would nonstick spray work on this pan or must i use oil?

    Hi cookinglight, All-Clad advises to not use aerosol spray oils on your nonstick cookware but it should be fine to use on stainless-steel interiors. Here are some tips on how to cook with oils to ensure that food doesn't stick in your All-Clad pan: A preheated pan and lower flames are the key to stick-free stainless steel cooking. Preheat your pan on low or medium heat for one to two minutes. Tap the upper edge of your pan to test the heat. (If it is too hot, remove from the burner for a couple of minutes.) Pour 2-3 teaspoons of cold oil in your preheated pan-or enough to cover the bottom of the cooking surface. Add food, making sure that there is an even sizzling sound when your food touches the pan. This indicates that your food is cooking on contact and creating a natural barrier to prevent sticking. Allow food to cook without disturbing it until the correct doneness is achieved. The natural sugars in your food caramelize on the cooked surface, developing great flavours and lifting your food off of the cooking surface naturally. If the sound that food makes on initial contact with the pan is more of a crackle than a sizzle, your heat is too high and sticking may occur. All-Clad recommends low to medium heat for frying, braising, sautéing and simmering because All-Clad is ideally crafted to hold heat.
