Flanigan was challenged with transforming “what felt kind of like a college dorm,” filled with cheap hand-me-down furniture into a relaxing, kid-friendly space that could work overtime. Not only did it need to house Ludo’s extensive library of culinary books, it had to accommodate two distinct office spaces—for both Ludo and Krissy—and convert to a guest house when their relatives came to town.

With a cherished art collection, polished concrete floors, and built-in bookcases as a foundation, the designer dreamed up an interior that embodies classic California chic style.

“It was important that the office spaces be functional, but also blend with the living/library space. We did not want a stark business feel surrounding a warm comfy living space. Finding pieces that blended into the overall aesthetic was very important.”
