How Coffee Frothers Work
The frothing attachments use steam and pressure to froth milk to foamy perfection. However, standalone milk frother devices work a little bit differently. These use motion to create frothed milk. Much like quickly beating eggs or cream produces peaks, quickly blending milk produces foam.
Types of Coffee Frothers
There are a few types of frothers from which to choose. Battery-operated handheld frothers look like tiny whisks on sticks. These quickly vibrate when you switch them on. These come in handy because you can froth milk right in your coffee cup before you pour in your brew. They also take up very little space in your kitchen drawers and can do double duty as salad dressing blenders. Manual frothers look like small pitchers with lids. These use hand power to create foam. This lets you use them anywhere, as you don't need an electric connection to power them. You can even enjoy your morning cappuccino on a camping trip. Lastly, electric frothers are very convenient. These plug into an outlet and make foam with the press of a button. Many have a few settings to let you make the ideal foam for your desired drink.
How to Use a Milk Frother
Using your coffee frother is quick and easy. To get started, grind your beans in your coffee mill and prepare your coffee as desired. You can also brew a cup of black tea or make a hot chocolate. If you're using a handheld or manual frother, heat up the milk for up to a minute in the microwave. If you're using an electric frother you can skip this step because most of these devices heat milk as they work. Next, add the milk to the device's pitcher. If you're using a handheld device, you can add your milk directly to your mug or froth it in a separate frothing pitcher to make multiple cups at once. Adjust the settings and either turn on the device or push the frother handle up and down. For a handheld frother, add the end to the milk and switch it on. Froth the milk for a few seconds and then add it to a mug. Add your coffee, add any sweeteners or flavor syrups and enjoy perfection in a mug.
