Over a century after Jerry Thomas described the family of mixed drinks known as sours in his 1862 book Bar-Tender's Guide, the Amaretto Sour was born. Its simple combination of one part amaretto to two parts sour mix made it a smooth low-ABV drink and a popular choice for consumers in the 1980s. These days, it’s often paired with egg white to give it body and dimension. In addition to the egg white, we’ve added ground cinnamon and bitters to complement the Amaretto’s sweet, nutty flavor.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 oz. (45 ml) amaretto
  • 1 oz. (30 ml) chilled fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz. (30 ml) chilled pomegranate juice
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon
  • Dash of Angostura bitters
  • 1 egg white
  • Edible flowers for garnish (optional)

Directions:

Add the amaretto, lime juice, pomegranate juice, cinnamon, bitters and egg white to a cocktail shaker. Shake for 10 seconds, then add a handful of ice and continue to shake until well chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with edible flowers and serve. Serves 1.
