Rated 1 out of 5 by jenkira from Fell apart I used this once to sharpen four or five knives, and I was very pleased with the ease of use and effectiveness. However, the next time I picked it up, one of the stones just fell off the wood block part. It's just glued on with a couple of very short pegs. I was very careful with how wet I got it, because I was worried about soaking the wood. And it looks like I was right. Weirdly, when I logged into my W-S account to initiate a return, the W-S web site lists the sharpener as "return already in process," so now I'll have to call and get that sorted out. I don't know if I'm willing to try another one, given how quickly this one fell apart and how much of a hassle it's turning out to be to get it exchanged. I wish W-S had simple, old-fashioned stones, without the fancy wooden holders -- it's needlessly fussy, makes it harder to store, and adds to the things that can go wrong.Date published: 2019-02-21Rated 5 out of 5 by Dandydanman from Works perfectly! I give this sharpener a 5 star rating although it took a month and a half to get it after ordering it from Williams Sonoma. They didn't bother telling me by email 3 days after ordering it that it was on backorder. To the review of the sharpener: I had some knives that hadn't seen a stone in years and were very dull. I started by soaking the stone in water for 10 minutes then started with the 240 grit stone and sharpened until I had a burr then moved to the 1000 grit stone and finally the 3000 grit stone with each of my knives and they were extremely sharp but to put the final edge on them I then used a steel and hit each side of the blade 4 or 5 times. This put an edge on each knife to the point that you could easily shave with it. Just use the water bottle and add some water when the stone seems to start drying out to keep the stone moist for proper sharpening capabilities then wash the stone and allow to dry after use and I feel this stone will give you many years of service.Date published: 2018-02-19Rated 5 out of 5 by kitababy from Does a Great Job Purchased this last year for Christmas for my son and he loves it so much, bought one for my husband for Christmas this year.
