- More about Staub
Staub traces its origin to the Alsace region of France, where founder Francis Staub designed his first enameled pot while working in an old French artillery factory in 1974. With the goal of creating the perfect pot for cooking the region's traditional hearty soups, stews and braises, he combined cast iron, the most popular material of the time, with the latest enameling technology available. Today, Staub still makes its cookware at a traditional atelier in France, casting each pot in an individual sand mold, which is heated to 800°F and destroyed after use. The exterior enamel coating is made with glass powder and mineral pigments, applied in two or three coats to generate brilliant glossy colors.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Winwon2 from Favorite pan I use this pan roughly 2-3 times every week. It really does everything well. I can’t recommend this pan enough. It does a great job browning and is usually very easy to clean. I couldn’t be happier.Date published: 2019-06-05Rated 5 out of 5 by Tropicalgirl from Ceramic or glass stove top safe In W&S description, under dimensions it states that this pan is not safe for glass cook tops, untrue, Staub is compatible with all cooktops. The Staub Universal Pan was my first piece of Staub cookware and I bought it because it is compatible with my glass stovetop. Perfectly smooth on the bottoms and have never scratched my glass top. I have replaced all my cookware, except for my sauce pans and turkey roaster with Staub because it is absolutely the best cast iron by far, beats the heck out of the LC brand. The Universal Pan and the 13" Paella Pan are the most used pans in my kitchen and are also my favorites to give as gifts. The grenadine color is gorgeous and my favorite, but all the colors are beautiful.Date published: 2018-06-19Rated 5 out of 5 by Yayen99 from An awesome everyday pan! My friend gifted me with a Staub oval cast iron cookware. I love to cook and so I immediately noticed the difference in flavor of the food cooked from my stainless steel cookware from the cast iron Staub. It always taste amazing! I love how it heats up evenly and cooks perfectly! I purchased the 10 in Staub cast iron pan and the Universal pan. I can't wait to get the cocotte pretty soon!Date published: 2018-03-27Rated 5 out of 5 by Beaa from Staub Universal Cast Iron After replacing so called non stick pans repeatedly because their anti stick material was coming apart from the pan, I decided on cast iron. I am more than happy with the cast iron pan! I sealed it by heating up equal parts of vinegar and water and letting it rest for an hour. Then drained and dried the pan and placed 3 tbl. of flaxseed oil inside and applied it to the surface. Flaxseed oil is edible food grade linseed oil. It sealed the surface and it works beautifully. I do use olive oil, butter, coconut oil when cooking. Nothing sticks. I cooked eggs, pork, chicken, beef. If anything is slightly stuck, a bit of baking soda or barkeepers friend removes it. Be sure to follow written instructions on this pan, meaning let it heat up and cool down gradually. The only fear is the glass lid breaking as I doubt they will replace it. The sapphire blue is wow!Date published: 2018-01-02Rated 5 out of 5 by Debbie from Must have! I almost returned this thinking I didn’t need another casserole dish and I am so glad I didn’t. It is so versatile and works for so many things I cook on a regular basis. I used it twice in the same day! I love Staub cookware and this delivers. I provided even heating on the stove and works great in the oven. I like that it has the glass lid so I can see without losing heat or steam.Date published: 2017-12-27Rated 5 out of 5 by Illinois_chef73 from LOVE IT! I bought this about a month ago and have used it almost daily. I had been looking for something like it to be my go to pan and it is! Other reviewers complained that to clean it up was tricky. However, I have found useful the recommendation that came in the manual book (p.24). Clean it under warm water with dishwashing liquid and an on-abrasive sponge and plastic brush. Also, they recommend hat if there's anything good residue left to soak your pot in warm water or boil water (I did the latter) and dishwashing liquid/baking soda to remove it. I highly recommend it!!!Date published: 2017-07-27Rated 3 out of 5 by Zxcvbnm from Lid does not fit well I bought a blue one a year ago. I have just noticed that my lid and pot don't fit perfectly. One of them is slightly oval. I am not sure if it is by design (to let steam escape a little??) or maybe they fit perfectly to begin with, but over time, the pot warped a little bit???Date published: 2017-03-02Rated 5 out of 5 by AnnieH from Best Purchase List This was my very first Saub purchase and first enamel coated cast iron item. I cannot believe I've lived this long without it! This pan sits on top of my cooktop: the color is beautiful, looks amazing and I use it constantly. Anything is just plain better in this pan, but especially love it for onions and mushrooms. Perfect size, love the angled sides that are just the right height. Easy to clean up. I cannot recommend it enough!Date published: 2016-12-27
