Rated 5 out of 5 by And_So_I_Glow from Cute with great flexibility. My husband surprised me with this, and it's exactly what I needed. I love that I can set the temp, which me allows it to properly brew delicate white and green teas as well as darker, more robust black teas. We also use the lower-temp setting to warm water for our dog's food. The chime is quiet, very quick and pleasant; I have no idea what there is to dislike about the chime. I think some folks simply like to find fault.Date published: 2019-04-13Rated 5 out of 5 by Teatime from I love my Smeg kettle I had the previous model in mint green and I loved that one, but needed the various temperatures for my variety of tea. This kettle is not only cute, but it works very well. I was worried about the chime being bothersome because of the other reviews I read, but it’s no big deal at all. The chime just adds to the Smeg’s charming appearance. I would definitely recommend this product.Date published: 2018-04-23Rated 1 out of 5 by BethesdaSAHM from Poor quality, expensive price The product warms water and does so at variable temperatures which is a neat feature. However, it seems to mostly be made of plastic and the letters that spell SMEG on both sides of the kettle have come off after a few weeks' use. SMEG is sending out a new set to me but if the letters need to be replaced again and it is after the 12 month warranty (12 months from order date which is disappointing as I ordered mine on 8/23/17 and didn't receive it until 10/7/17) I will have to lobby a SMEG representative to request an exemption to the warranty. I ordered this tea kettle because it was the most unique design of those available in the US market. 1950's is not my style but I prefer it to the more neutral-looking kettles on the market, especially since my kitchen is small and the kettle is visible at all times. I also wanted something where my children could warm up water safely on their own. This is not a good kettle for this purpose as it gets very hot so it can only be held safely by it's handle. One more thing, when I was talking with the SMEG customer service representative, he mentioned that another common complaint (besides the name lettering coming off) is that the start button often gets stuck. Unfortunately, as this is a special order from WS, I could not return it. I am very disappointed and will not order another SMEG appliance again.Date published: 2017-12-28Rated 2 out of 5 by Thomas from Cheap plastics and really annoying chimes All the metal looking parts are actually cheap plastic (though it is priced at the very high end of electric kettles) - and the thing makes a really annoying chime music (not a beep, an actual melody, like those korean washing machines) every time you press a button. The first time, it's cute. The 15th time, it's annoying. The 100th time, it drives you crazy. But it will warm your water... Up to you if you want to pay the high price tag and have to put up with cheap plastics and listen to it intrude on your personal sound space and play its music every time you need hot water.Date published: 2017-11-13
