Rated 2 out of 5 by MoMoWack from Doesn't crack it! I've had this mortar & pestle for many, many years but haven't used it for a long time because it just doesn't work well. The bottom- line is that porcelain is too slippery and just isn't a good material to break things down. Too smooth! My daughter, who was a chef for many years, has a very good one that's rough on the inside and you can grind spices in just seconds in hers. (you can feel friction as you push and pull the pestle around) With this one stuff just slides around and you have to pound and pound to break up the spices. It's also not large enough to do much of anything. Anyway I'm finally replacing it with a Thai granite mortar & Pestle.Date published: 2019-08-27Rated 5 out of 5 by robbiearl from Nice mortar and pestle I have had this mortar and pestle for 5 years and it has held up well. The mortar bowl is the perfect width/depth for my applications of grinding cumin seeds, fennel, etc... The only drawback I have found on the mortar/pestle is that I would like the pestle to be slightly heavier. Also, the bowl width/openness might frustrate you since, when griding seeds, it is easy for the seeds to start flying out of the bowl. Obviously, I just keep my hand over the bowl when grinding to keep from losing to much when grinding.Date published: 2018-07-11
What is the capacity of the bowl?Hi gigi64, The capacity of the mortar is 11 oz.Date published: 2019-02-28
