Rated 3 out of 5 by TSH4 from Have now sadly had to replace 2 parts This was a Christmas gift from my kids. I LOVED it! I care for it and treat it as if it were made of gold. The first thing to break was the dough hook. I did lose a whole batch of bread dough, and had a hard time finding a metal replacement, but I felt I must’ve done something to cause it, so I bit the bullet and paid pretty for a new one. I was just putting it away after washing it, when the glass bowl broke! It had barely bumped the spindle! I’m glad it didn’t break mid batch!Date published: 2019-07-17Rated 2 out of 5 by Lbricken from Awesome...until it broke I received this as a Christmas gift and LOVED IT—loved being able to see what I was mixing; loved the lid for popping dough in the fridge, loved how easy it was to clean. Until one day when I had trouble locking it into position. The spout bumped the back of the mixer and it shattered. I’m so glad it wasn’t one of my kids using it at the time. I’m so disappointed—I’ve had KitchenAid mixers for years and have always loved their quality. I’ve never had any problems and I’m shocked such a sturdy looking bowl broke with such minor contact. The quality and durability definitely didn’t match the price tag and are not what I’d expect from a KitchenAid product. So disappointed.Date published: 2019-06-24Rated 2 out of 5 by rkza from Awesome - until it broke This glass bowl was a Christmas gift from my kids last year. I loved the big size, the pouring spout, the lid, the measurements on the side, and that it provided the capability to view all the ingredients as they were being mixed. HOWEVER - a couple days ago I was fitting it onto the base of the mixer and the bowl bumped against the mixer - more like tapped against it - and all of a sudden the bowl had a crack about half the way down the side. This bowl was never dropped, never took a hard hit. Was never put in the freezer. I'm super disappointed - it was an expensive gift that didn't hold up.Date published: 2019-06-01Rated 2 out of 5 by Anonymous from Very disappointed with such poor quality! My Husband (sweet man that he is!) gifted me the Artisan 5qt mixer for my birthday last year. On the 3rd use, a chunk of the base glass cracked and broke off, and the bowl—now broken off from the grey plastic ring that screws it into the mixer base, flew off onto the counter. I was so disappointed! Husband epoxied the grey ring back onto what was left of the glass base, and we were hopeful that it might hold, but it broke right back off on the next use. From a well-known and trusted name like Kitchenaid, this is definitely NOT the quality I was expecting! Very disappointing! Will be looking for a stainless steel relacement bowl now, as those don’t have any cheap glass or plastic parts to break off while simply mixing cake batter.Date published: 2019-03-29Rated 1 out of 5 by Katelynwait from Loved it until it Shattered and Injured me... I’ve had this bowl for about a year. While the gray plastic base would sometimes get stuck in the mixer, and the bowl would unscrew from the gray plastic base, I still preferred using the glass bowl for breadmaking. This malfunction has happened to me many times, but I’ve been able to work around it until about a week ago. The gray base got stuck in the mixer base, and the glass bowl came off of the gray plastic base when I went to take the bowl off the mixer. I got the gray plastic unscrewed from the mixer base, and re-screwed it onto the glass bowl. I double checked it to make sure the bowl was securely attached, and resumed making the bread dough. I turned the mixer on, and the bowl slipped out of its gray base again, the beater hit the bowl, and the bowl shattered, throwing glass peices around. I quickly went to turn the mixer off (imagining these glass shards flying around the kitchen - with the potential of stabbing me...). Once the mixer was off, I looked down, and the spinning broken bowl had sliced my wrist open - resulting in 8 stitches... I will only be using (and recommending) the metal bowls from now on.Date published: 2019-03-19Rated 5 out of 5 by Bigbwash1 from Classic Features Bought this for Christmas, arrived gift wrapped and in perfect shape. The bowl is thick glass with easy to read external stamped measurements. It fits our 20 year old KA Artesian mixer perfectly. The plastic lid is nice and snug. Indentation in middle is to allow for mixer head to come down and still keep lid on. A lot of folks comment on securing bowl to mixer base. Attach the grey plastic ring securely to the glass bowl. To attach to base it is similar to a food processor bowl. Rotate the bowl until the plastic ring groves find the mixer base slots. Let the weight of the bowl help you find the grooves. Once it plops in gently turn bowl (clockwise) until plastic ring secures to the base. Good to go after that. WS, consider one of your short videos to show how this is done. We really like the glass bowl, will last a lifetime with proper care.Date published: 2019-01-10Rated 3 out of 5 by Jonnathe1st from Awesome for kids My kids loved the glass bowl, they could watch the mixer work! We have had it for almost a year and the base wasnt sitting right, after working on it and thought it was on good. It wasn’t. And the bowl popped out and broke on the blade mixing. Fun watching but definitely have to have it in 100% work capacity before using!Date published: 2018-12-18Rated 1 out of 5 by Mb88 from Broken bowl I was given this as a wedding gift less than 2 years ago. We didn't use it for a while because it was so big. A few months ago I was using it (for the 3rd time in it's life) and a huge crack went down the side and a chunk came out, throwing tiny shards of glass everywhere, including my made-from-scratch bread dough. I was using the rubber-like mixing attachment, so it definitely didn't hit anything and nothing touched or scraped the bowl. I was so excited about this bowl because you can't make dough in a metal bowl, but I don't think I'll be buying another of these bowls.Date published: 2018-12-02
