- Apricot Ginger Pound Cake And Glaze
To ensure all the ingredients are at room temperature, set them out at least 2 hours before making the batter.
Position a rack in the lower third of an oven and preheat to 325°F. Thoroughly grease and flour a 10-cup fleur-de-lis cake pan or standard Bundt pan.
In a small bowl, whisk together the sour cream and milk until blended; set aside.
Place the butter in the bowl of an electric mixer and sift the flour, sugar, salt and baking powder over the butter. Add the eggs, vanilla and sour cream mixture. Fit the bowl on the mixer and, using the paddle attachment, beat on low speed until the mixture is creamy and smooth, 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. Stop the mixer and scrape the sides of the bowl occasionally. Remove the bowl from the mixer and, using a large spatula, gently fold the ginger and apricots into the batter. Spoon the batter into the prepared pan, spreading the batter so the sides are higher than the center.
Bake until the cake begins to pull away from the sides of the pan and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Transfer the cake to a wire rack and cool upright in the pan for 10 minutes. Tap the sides of the pan and invert the cake out onto the rack. Set the rack over a sheet of waxed paper.
To make the glaze, in a small bowl, whisk together the rum, water and sugar until blended. Using a pastry brush, generously brush the surface of the warm cake with the glaze. Let the glazed cake cool completely, 1 to 2 hours, before serving. Serves 16.Get the full apricot-ginger pound cake with rum glaze recipe.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Lauren123 from Not as great as my old mixer and my rebate issues I bought this about a month ago. I was so excited to use it. I found though that sometimes my bowl slips out even when it is in the locked position. I also was super excited about my ice cream maker rebate but I wasn't allowed to get it for some reason with Kitchen Aid. Kind of disappointing especially since WS was promoting that special so much.Date published: 2017-10-04Rated 1 out of 5 by kris129 from Kitchen aid didnt honor free attachment Mixer is great, but I bought with WS for the ice cream maker attachment rebate and it wasn't honored. said my upc wasn't valid and now that they have the original, I can't dispute it. Very disappointing, it was the artisan series and a qualifying model. Not sure why this would not be honored.Date published: 2017-09-24Rated 5 out of 5 by HappyinGeorgia from Nice mixer for the price I have had a larger KA stand mixer for 21+ years and love it. But we moved and downsized so I am planning to give that one to one of my kids. The Artisan is a good size, has good capacity and seems to work well. It is also lighter than my previous one which I like. I also looked at the new mini, but it was definitely too small for the baking we do at holidays, etc. This one was a good price and a good value. Love W-S service and selection! Would recommend this product.Date published: 2017-01-18Rated 4 out of 5 by Marfababe from Great mixer but not the bowl After 20 years, I decided to replace my KitchenAid Mixer with a new one. No problems with the mixer but when using the dough hook, my bowl kept coming loose and working its way off mixer. The indentions on the bottom were not deep enough to hold the bowl in place. Took it back to my favorite retail store and it turns out the bowl was made in India and was no where near as sturdy as the bowls made in Korea. World of difference in weight and in the grooves at bottom of bowl. I love my retail store because they always take good care of any of my concerns. Just beware not to get any stainless bowl made in India.Date published: 2016-07-24Rated 5 out of 5 by HarriK from A great kitchen helper I can't imagine how I got into my sixth decade of life before getting one of these. It is a great time-saver. The fact that it can be beating, whisking, etc. while I am doing some other task is such a help. I am not very adept with technical things but I find it extremely easy to operate and change attachments. Really lives up to its reputation! One caution: very large and heavy; takes up a lot of counter space.Date published: 2016-06-06Rated 5 out of 5 by Mich01 from Great mixer, great quality Purchased the red artisan stand mixer in Dec 2015. Haven't been disappointed. It does a great job with cookie dough, pie crusts, pasta dough, bread dough, etc. I wonder why I waited so long? I waited to purchase til there was a sale and rebate. This was a great investment. The only heads up: the ceramic covering on the dough hook does chip readily...Date published: 2016-06-05Rated 4 out of 5 by Debdoescakes from The Star of my Kitchen Such a powerful tool. Mine sits on a counter and is the pretty pink focal point of my pink kitchen. But a word of warning! The color has begun to fade. You might prevent this if you cover it when not using it, but who wants to hide those gorgeous colors?Date published: 2016-04-09Rated 5 out of 5 by Pumpkin715 from A must for every baker I bought this for my daughter for Christmas. They now come in so many great colors. I have had the same model for 30 years and use it every time I bake. When I'm baking for Christmas it doesn't even get put away. I use it for making cookies, pie crust, cakes, squares and bread. It makes the task effortless. I wouldn't be without it. My daughter keeps hers on the counter because it is such a pretty blue.Date published: 2016-02-01
