- Use & Care
- Board should be seasoned with a food-grade mineral oil before first use.
- To season the board properly, warm the mineral oil slightly and apply it in the direction of the wood grain using a clean, dry cloth. Allow the oil to soak in and repeat with another application. Allow the board to dry and wipe off any excess oil.
- Hand-wash with hot, soapy water. Dry thoroughly.
- Do not soak or submerge board in water.
- Occasionally rub with a food-safe mineral oil to keep wood from drying out.
- To sanitize, wash the board with a solution of one part vinegar to five parts water.
- Remove odors by rubbing the board with kosher or table salt and half a lemon. Let sit for 2 to 3 minutes then wipe clean with a damp cloth. Remove excess moisture with a clean paper towel and stand the board on end to air dry.
- Store in a dry area away from extreme temperatures.

Initially purchased this for cutting bread, which it is fabulous for, then decided to try it for slicing beef tenderloin. I own numerous cutting boards for beef, however; I have never cared for having the blood pool in the wells on the board when slicing. I tried this board and Voila!...no more issue, everything collects beneath the board insert. Would love to have John McLeod make this into a larger board for meat carving. Great product no matter what you use it for, highly recommend!Date published: 2015-01-03Rated 5 out of 5 by Wini from Breadboard is beautiful enough to leave on counter Black Walnut Insert gives the distinctive look to the breadboard and I have purchased about a dozen of these over the years...not because they don't last, but because friends and family come to the house and they LEAVE with my breadboard they LOVE it so much. With the correct care, I am sure this will be an heirloom board to pass down to my son. In the interim, I purchase them for wedding gifts which I guarantee, gets more use than the fine china everyone registers for. I think that the artistry the board makes it something I leave out on the counter vs. putting away after each use. Because the insert is slotted, I store my breadknife in/on the board and it keeps the knife from falling off and still easily accessible.
