Rated 2 out of 5 by Pfrank from Doesn’t last My previous espresso maker was over 30 years old I’ve had the Breville for three months and already it has problems. It was great for about the first six weeks and since that time it doesn’t express well the steaming function is very inconsistent.Date published: 2019-12-05Rated 5 out of 5 by flutepilot from You need to play to get it right, but when you doe I have had this machine for about two months now. It took me the better part of a month to find just what to do with grind, amount, etc in order to get things right. As I roast my own, this turns out to be a bit different for each coffee. The end result is, however, as good as any espresso I have gotten in any coffee shop, including Italy. Believe it or no, the proper dose for the double espresso filter is at the top range of the single dose range. This was the hardest to find. My Costa Rican coffee demands a slightly finer grind than my Brazil, etc. Not easy to use, especially at first, but stay with it and the rewards are worth it.Date published: 2019-09-20Rated 5 out of 5 by jjcroo from Exceeded Expectations I purchased this in May. I wanted to wait to write a review to make sure there were no issues, and I can report that after 3+ months this machine is functioning perfectly. This is an upgraded purchase from the prior Breville Espresso machine I had that did not have the built in grinder. I was concerned that this would take up too much counter space, however it does not. The grind on the coffee is perfect. It is also not as noisy as I anticipated. I use the factory setting, however you can adjust as needed. When making coffee, the pressure levels are always within the desired range and always creates the perfect crema. I recommend turning the machine on for about 5-10 minutes before making coffee. When the cleaning light comes on, I also do a decalcification with white vinegar. I am so glad that I purchased this machine. You will not be disappointed.Date published: 2019-09-09Rated 5 out of 5 by Abby from Espresso Lovers Dream Had my eye on this machine for quite some time. I've owned it now for just over a year. Well worth the investment! It has paid for itself three times over by now with the time and money I save not having to stop for coffee on the way to work. Easy to use! Love this machine!Date published: 2019-02-19Rated 4 out of 5 by Britt from Overall a great purchase I bought this espresso machine 6 months ago. It has worked great so far. My only concern is that the filters sometimes get stuck and I have to pull them out by hand. I was frustrated that it would not froth milk, but I realized that I was doing it wrong after I googled it, so now it’s good.Date published: 2019-01-31Rated 1 out of 5 by Kitchen Guy from Keep looking Please note, I have been brewing home espresso since ‘99. I wanted to upgrade to something beyond the “basic” home espresso machine. After extensive research, I choose the Barista Express. The unit arrived and the hot water spout didn’t work right out of the box; send it back for replacement. New machine worked fine and made wonderful drinks with really great frothed milk. Over summer, I made iced lattes and had no use for the steam wand but when I wanted to use it in late summer, it wouldn’t froth milk. I cleaned it with Durgol and twice with the recommended water/vinegar mixture; still didn’t work. Sent into Breville for a service and when I received the machine back, still wouldn’t froth milk plus the hot water spout now dribbles water when using the wand. Contacted Breville and no response after two weeks. Barista Express...a very expensive mistake. Keep looking.Date published: 2019-01-08Rated 1 out of 5 by Alex from Horrible!!!!! Save yourself!! I bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband and it was nothing but a disappointment. I’ve had to return this product twice in the two weeks since Christmas. We plugged it in the first time and no water pumped through at all. Exchanged it for a new one and it worked for a week before the heat pump stopped working. Produced bitter, underextracted espresso. We realized the heat wasn’t working when we tried to froth milk and only got a loud noise and no steam. Then tried to make another cup of espresso and it came out cold. Later that day, it decided to heat to lukewarm. Worked briefly the next day. Following day, no heat again. It will be going back to the store again tomorrow. This has been the most frustrating product I have ever purchased. Sad I wasted good beans on this. Breville should reimburse me for all my coffee and time spent on this junk.Date published: 2019-01-07Rated 3 out of 5 by Vern from Excellent Espresso Maker but Technical Issues. I would have given this unit a strong 4, but I have some annoying issues with it. 1. The grounded coffee does not "land" in the middle of the filter, it is off-centre towards the back of the Portafilter. About 5% falls outside the filter. 2. When I try to remove the Portafilter, the (2 cup filter) cup gets stuck in the unit so that I have to remove it by hand or a tool since it is hot if I want to make another espresso. An older Breville unit I had did not have this problem. I have had this unit about 3 months. 3. Now I have to adjust the time or grind size to get the pressure up. Perhaps the grinder is already worn out? BTW this unit is only used once a day and by only one (1) person.Date published: 2018-12-19
Does this product also brew a standard cup of coffee? If not what product does. The Breville® Barista Express Espresso Machine makes only espresso and frothed milk. However there is a dedicated hot water spout that will allow for the making of Americano's. For simple regular coffee there are drip coffee makers.Date published: 2019-07-13
Does the breville barista machine use pre ground espresso? Such as lavazza?Hi Jec2019, The Breville Barista can be used with pre-ground espresso by scooping the espresso into the portafilter and tamping using the tamper included. However, we recommend using the built-in grinder to grind whole bean espresso right before brewing to ensure the best extraction and flavor. You cannot store the pre-ground espresso in the bean hopper, it must be whole beans only.Date published: 2019-05-10
Does this machine simultaneously froth milk and brew the espresso?Hi maya0917, With the Breville Barista Express Espresso Machine, you cannot froth the milk and brew your espresso at the same time. If you'd like a machine to do both simlutaneously, the Breville Oracle Touch Espresso Machine will do just that. Here is the product page for that machine: https://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/breville-oracle-touch-espresso-machine/Date published: 2019-02-27
