Ideal for one pan meals, the All-Clad d5 Polished Stainless-Steel Essential Pan with Lid features a patented technology of five alternating layers of responsive aluminum and durable heat-diffusing stainless steel. The d5 Essential Pan features high, rounded sides and a wide surface area to facilitate sautéing and the stirring of ingredients while the lid can be used to lock in moisture and heat after cooking to finish on the stovetop or in the oven; can be used for risottos, stir fries or making sauces and then tossing in pasta. I kept looking at it whenever I went in an when I was online but I was afraid to use stainless other than a saucepot. I finally gave in and now I wish I had gotten it sooner. I mostly like to use it for things like chili and tikka masala where I can brown the chicken and then dump everything in because it holds quite a load without stuff sloshing out when I stir. The lid is handy because I never know when everyone else is going to show up for dinner so I can stick it in the oven on warm without the food drying out. I had in mind for cooking pasta, soup, chicken breast, steak etc however it is not serving the purpose very well. I have used it for 5 times to give it a try for the first week i got it and now i dont even want to use this pan because it is so hard to use, clean, store etc. this is such a high maintenance pan and I had to use a specific detergent, sponge to clean it and always put it on a towel, wipe right afprr washing it. WOW so much more work when i use this pan. The heat is not evenly spread always the left side gets burnt when right side is not there yet. It is such a pain to clean. I tried seasoning with cooking oil but everything sticks. I will need to talk to a customer service for return. Also the handle. It is so inefficient to put it in the oven. I tried to make some chicken and the result was awful. Regular detergent cannot even clean this pan. I had to use bar keepers friend only for this pan. Just so inconvenient for me. Besides the handle, what is the differance between the "All-Clad d5 Essential Pan, 6-Qt" and "All-Clad d5 All In One Pan, 6-Qt"? How are they both 6qts if the essential pan is 6" high and the all in one pan is 3" with the diameter the same for both?Hi slightly confused 168, We apologize for the confusion. The Essential Pan and All-In-One Pan both have the same dimensions: 3 1/2" diam., 3 1/2" high. They are both 6" high with the lid on. We will be updating both product pages with this information. The only difference is the Essential Pan has a long handle (like a fry pan) and a short helper handle. The All in One Pan has 2 short handles (like a casserole type pan). To cook and serve out of this pan at the table, we recommend the All-In-One Pan so that there's not a long handle in the way of other vessels.Date published: 2019-09-02
