  • Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great looking and functioning machine - but slow I read many of the reviews and most complained about the noise from the grinder, which is true, but let me add a little more depth. First of all, this is an extremely solid machine, built to the same standards as most Breville products, which is to say very heavy and good looking. It is quite tall, so be sure to measure appropriately to ensure it will fit beneath your cabinets. It took little time to set-up and I quickly dialed in the coffee to the maximum level of strength and also found ~375-435 ml as the optimal amount for a travel mug (with some room for milk). That's the beauty of this machine - you can use it for a travel mug, coffee mug or a carafe, the choice is yours. The machine then figures out the rest - how much coffee to grind, how long to let it steep, and then you have a strong and consistent cup of coffee. A few notes - yes, the grinder is loud, but it's no louder than any other grinder and does a good job. As with most home grinders, I'd highly recommend you not use oily beans (stick to most light or medium blends and you should be okay). Second, if you don't want to use the grinder, then you don't have to use it - you can instead just use pre-ground coffee and bypass the grinder like a normal coffee maker. The machine is a bit slow, but the count down timer is quite handy, with most cups taking 3-4.5 minutes. Yes, much slower than a "K-Cup" coffeemaker, but also vastly superior as it will 'steep' the coffee before releasing it, depending upon how strong you have requested your coffee be. In terms of maintenance, it's very simple: - rinse out the coffee grinds with each use (either throw away the paper filters or rinse the permanent gold filter) - every few uses, unlock the bean hopper that opens up a pathway from the bean hopper/grinder to the filter to ensure no coffee grinds are built up. That's it. That's honestly not much work. Overall, I'm very happy with it. It's still not as good as a good grinder + French Press, but for those 'quick' coffee days where you still want something with quality, it does a very good job. Meanwhile, I still have a Keurig with random flavors for when company comes over and wants more variety. All in all, I recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEEN A GEM To all you considering buying....I have had one for several years and it has been flawless and a joy every morning. But I must admit, the latest batch must be seriously flawed after reading the overwhelming reviews. Also the price is dropping like crazy indicating perhaps a new production is about to replace these flawed ones. Stay away for now...better safe than sorry!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Calling it quits on this machine We are on our third model of this machine. The first one lasted about 5 years and then we bought a new one. We love the thermal carafe, gold reusable filter and timer. However we've had nothing but issues with the grinder. The grinder on the second one stopped working after 1 month. WS replaced it and now after 6 months we are having issues again. It requires constant cleaning out of the grinder gear and bin which is a pain. I would not recommend this at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Review by someone with common sense I have had this coffee maker for over 3 years. I honestly can't come up with anything I'd do differently. It is expensive, but I can't even begin to tell you how many coffee makers have I wasted money and and thrown away. For the people that complain about the grinder, give me a break! How many quiet coffee grinders are there??? Grind your beans at night and make your cup in the morning. There is maintenance involved with this unit, but you're asking it to do much more than just make coffee. It needs to be cleaned, don't be so lazy! If you're a serious coffee drinker, have at least an 8th grade education, then give this unit serious consideration. Trust me, I'm far from a genius... There isn't a person around who doesn't ask me about how good my coffee is. I have 4 other friends that have bought the same one because of me, and the perfect coffee it makes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Breville stands behind this!! I called Breville customer service since the machine stopped working. Explained the problem to the service rep. He took all my info and put me on hold and after 3 min. he said Breville would pay to Fed Ex the coffee maker to their service center for FREE! and ship it back to. After 2.3 years ! Wow... warranty was only 1 year. So thank you Breville!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fussiest machine I've ever owned Got this as a gift from my dad, as he has one and loves it. He's a very picky, type-A, low-tolerance guy so I don't understand how he suffers through the agony of using this instrument. I hate it. All I want is a coffee machine that I can set to be ready when I wake up. This one does that, but at what cost? It wakes you with a horribly loud grinding noise; the area between the grinder and the basket is constantly getting compacted with grinds, especially as the steam from the basket leaks back up into the grinder area, requiring surgical intervention with a headlamp, butter knife, and vacuum to dislodge the grinds at early hours of the morning; it blows through beans at 1.5X the rate of a normal, drip coffee maker; and that's all after you've spent countless batches trying to titrate the ground size and strength. Sometimes machines don't make things easier. Save yourself and get a $30 coffee maker that reproducibly works without all the fuss.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn’t last very long My coffee maker lasted a year and then began to have a terminal series of error codes. The quality just isn’t there.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Expensive coffee maker the awful!! This is an expensive coffeemaker with no way to turn the grinder off. It’s loud and slow. Also, the company has TERRIBLE customer service, almost impossible to reach! This company should add a button to turn off the grinder when not needed and FIX THEIR “customer service!”. Don’t waste your money

We purchased the Breville Grind Control Coffee maker from W&S .....we cannot get rid of the error code stating it needs descaling.  We have cleaned it so many times with white vinegar and water as suggested. Is there another cleaner you recommend?

    Asked by: DeborahKnoxvilleTN
One thing to make sure is that the machine is actually in descale mode. Make sure that once the tank is filled, the STRENGTH button is pressed and held for 5 seconds so that the process begins automatically. If that button is not held, the brewer is essentially just brewing a pot of coffee which won't clean the machine as intended and the process is not complete until the READY message appears on the screen. If the DESCALE message is still showing please contact our consumer support team for more in-depth troubleshooting and resolution.
