Williams Sonoma has a deep commitment to giving back to our community – and we're always here to help out. Whether it's donating nourishing foods to local food banks, hosting meals for kids in our test kitchen or volunteering at community organizations, we want to be there for the people who need us.
When our products are STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certified it means they are free from harmful levels of more than 300 substances.
Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are created using gene modification techniques that do not occur in nature or through traditional crossbreeding methods. Some believe they may pose unknown health and environmental risks, so our non-GMO foods are labeled to meet our customer’s personal preferences.
USDA Organic Food
United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) defines specific requirements for organic food production and processing. Organic food must contain 95% or more organic ingredients free of synthetic additives like pesticides, chemical fertilizers, dyes, and must not be processed using industrial solvents.
Volatile organic compounds (VOC) are widely used as ingredients in paints, varnishes and other furniture finishes. VOCs emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids may have adverse short and long-term health effects to humans. We work with suppliers to offer EPA-defined low-VOC finishes to improve the indoor air quality of our products in customers’ homes.
GREENGUARD certification assures that products designed for use in indoor spaces meet strict chemical emissions limits, which contribute to the creation of healthier interiors.
Forest Stewardship Council®
Crafted using wood from forests certified by the Forest Stewardship Council®, whose standard is uniquely trusted to conserve wildlife habitat, protect clean water and respect the rights of Native people and local communities. In order to safeguard our forests, our catalogs are printed on 100% FSC-certified paper.
Better Cotton Initiative
By buying cotton products from Williams Sonoma, you’re supporting responsible cotton production through the Better Cotton Initiative.
Global Organic Textile Standard
When products are certified to Global Organic Textiles Standard (GOTS) they are considered to be the "gold standard" as GOTS enforces strict social and environmental requirements and meet the highest standards at every stage of textile production.
Williams Sonoma promotes the recovery, recycling, and reuse of materials as an alternative to using virgin material in order to alleviate pressures on natural resources. Last year, we recycled nearly one million dollars’ worth of materials - and this year, we’ll do even more.
Electric and battery-powered products must meet US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) established criteria for energy efficiency and performance.
