Gruyère contributes a sweet, nutty flavor to our toasted sandwich. This cow's milk cheese, which originated in Switzerland, is typically aged for about a year. It is now produced in France as well as in several other countries.
Ingredients:
- 2 slices white bread
- Dijon mustard as needed
- 4 Tbs. grated Gruyère cheese
- 2 thin slices ham
- Unsalted butter as needed
Directions:
Lay the bread slices on a clean work surface. Spread a thin layer of mustard on each slice. Sprinkle 2 Tbs. of the cheese on one bread slice. Lay the ham on top and sprinkle with the remaining 2 Tbs. cheese. Top with the other bread slice, mustard side down. Press the sandwich firmly together and lightly butter the outside of the sandwich.
Place the sandwich in a Dualit toaster sandwich basket and toast in the toaster slot according to the manufacturer's instructions until done to your liking. Serves 1.
