Staub's updated cast-iron braiser features a domed Chistera lid, named for the popular sport played in the Basque region of Spain. The lid's interior features drop-shaped spikes that collect moisture to provide continuous basting for succulent results. Rounded sides ease stirring and prevent sticking, and generous upturned handles enable seamless transport from oven to table while wearing oven mitts. Use this versatile pan for everything from slow-cooking to baking casseroles and roasting chicken.

Use & Care


  • Ideal for use on any cooktop, including induction; not recommended for glass stove tops.
  • Oven and broiler safe up to 500°F.
  • No seasoning required; for best results use low to medium heat.
  • When using high heat, bring your pan slowly to a high temperature.
  • Use plastic, wood or nylon utensils only; metal utensils may damage the enamel.
  • Enamel may chip or crack if banged against a hard surface.
  • Handles and knobs can become very hot. Always use pot holder or glove when handling.


  • Allow pan to cool before washing.
  • Dishwasher safe.
  • Stubborn stains can be removed by soaking your pot for a few minutes in hot, soapy water.
  • Completely dry pan before storing.
  • Avoid using steel wool, steel scouring pads, harsh detergents, bleach or abrasive cleaners.

Return Policy

At Williams Sonoma, we take great pride in the quality and craftsmanship of our products. Attention to design, materials, safety and construction are our priority. Upon receipt, please inspect your purchase and notify us of any damage; we will arrange for a prompt replacement.

If within 30 days, you are dissatisfied for any reason, you may return your purchase for a refund of the merchandise value. An original receipt or gift receipt is required for all returns and exchanges. Returns with a gift receipt will be refunded in the form of a Merchandise Credit for the amount indicated on the gift receipt. Returns with original receipt will be refunded in the original form of payment, cash and check refunds over $100 will be issued as a company check (may take 14 business days from time of request).

We cannot accept returns on monogrammed, personalized, special-order items, custom upholstery, food, items shipped direct from the vendor or on items damaged through normal wear and tear. Final sale items ending in .97 or .99 cannot be returned.

Nice deep sides, dark interior hides stains, and superior finish quality. Compared to Staub’s cocottes of similar quart size, the weight of this braiser (which can also be used as a cocotte - French oven) should be manageable for most people.

As a Staub aficionado and collector (numerous pieces in multiple colors, lol), this braiser is even nicer than the traditional 2.75 and 4 qt braisers (and I have those as well). I really like the new design (and I am a modern design person) and its esthetics. I am a modern architecture person, yet I really like this slightly “retro” design. I always receive complements on my lovely Staub cookware. Over the holidays, I made a beautiful freekah with butternut squash and fresh cranberries dish and it was so pretty (and tasty) in this braiser. Complements abounded and clean up was a breeze (practically wipe it out). I have also made macaroni and cheese on several occasions and the braiser took it to new heights with even cooking. I admit to having this braiser in graphite, blue and grenadine and choose which one to use based on the dish. We eat with our eyes as well as our taste buds, and this Staub is spectacular in both departments. I highly recommend this braiser to everyone. You will be proud to display your culinary endeavors in your lovely Staub braiser on your table.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Braiser I just received this braiser in graphite grey purchased from Williams Sonoma. I already own four other enameled cast iron products from Staub as well as several others made by Le Creuset and like both brands for their excellent quality, performance, and craftsmanship. I did not have a need for another braiser, but what caught my eye was the difference in the handle design. This is the only reason I made the purchase. I highly prefer this handle design over Staub's normal design and Le Creuset's signature series design. I think this handle design is not only superior aesthetically but functionally as well. I only wish my other Staub products had the same handles. Staub hit a home run with this one by taking their already well crafted products and elevating it to another level. I hope you switch to this design because I believe this to be another competitive advantage for your products. My only gripe now is this new braiser makes my older Staub products appear inferior.

  • What is the interior width of the pan along the bottom?

    I have found on another site that the depth of this braiser is 2inches not 3 inches as stated on Williams Sonoma. What is the depth from inside bottom to top of rim - not with lid?
