Often served before the meal as an aperitif, this classic cocktail is believed to have originated in Florence, Italy, in the early 1900s.
Ingredients
- 1 oz. (30 ml) gin
- 1 oz. (30 ml) sweet vermouth
- 1 oz. (30 ml) Campari
- 1 orange twist
Directions
In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the gin, vermouth and Campari. Stir until well chilled, about 30 seconds, then strain into a double old-fashioned glass with a single large cube of ice. Garnish with the orange twist and serve. Makes 1 drink.

All the correct ingredients and processes
This is the process learned from the bar at Yew, Four Seasons in Vacouver. The use Vya vermouth which adds just a touch more of orange flavour. Flame the orange peel to get the flash and burnt orange flavour but do not add to the drink.
