A handheld culinary torch has a multitude of uses besides the traditional one of caramelizing sugar on crème brûlée. Here, we create an over-the-top cappuccino by caramelizing the foam just before serving.

Ingredients

  • 1 shot espresso
  • 1/4 cup steamed milk
  • Superfine sugar as needed

Directions

Place a cappuccino cup under an espresso drip and draw the espresso directly into the cup. Pour in the steamed milk, reserving the froth. Spoon a heaping spoonful of froth on top.

Lightly sprinkle superfine sugar over the top of the foam. Using a culinary torch according to the manufacturer's instructions, move the flame continuously in small circles over the surface until the foam is caramelized. Serve immediately. Serves 1.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun and Delicious Twist on Cappuccino! I love Cappuccinos, and I love Creme Brûlée; this is a perfect combination of the two! I will offer this fun and delicious version to our next dinner and/or overnight guests as well for my husband and me. Besides, (let’s be honest) in my chemistry loving son’s opinion, it’s another opportunity to use the mini torch!
