Roja Sangria

Turn any gathering into a festive celebration with a pitcher of fruity sangria. It comes together in minutes with the help of our Roja Sangria Mix, a blend of sweet cherries and tart cranberries brightened with orange and lime. This refreshing drink is a fun spin on the Spanish cocktail called Agua de Valencia, traditionally made with orange juice. For a more classic sangria, add 1 to 1 1/2 cups (8 to 12 fl. oz./250 to 375 ml) brandy or rum to the basic recipe below. We’ve also suggested several variations, including sangria cocktails and a nonalcoholic version. Now mix up your favorite and let the party begin!
Ingredients
- 1 bottle (24 fl. oz./709 ml) chilled Williams Sonoma Roja Sangria Mix
- 2 bottles (each 750 ml) chilled Spanish red wine or Merlot
- 1 orange, peeled and sliced
- 1 apple, cored and sliced
- Handful of fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
- Ice cubes
Directions
In a large serving pitcher or a punch bowl, pour in the sangria mix and wine and stir to combine. Stir in the orange, apple and strawberries. Pour or ladle into ice-filled glasses. For a fuller flavor, refrigerate the sangria-filled pitcher for 1 hour before serving. Serves 8.
Variations:
Light Red Wine Sangria: Follow the recipe above, using 1 bottle of red wine instead of 2.
Sangria Cocktail: In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine 2 oz. (60 ml) Spanish red wine or Merlot, 1 oz. (30 ml) chilled Roja Sangria Mix and 1/2 oz. (15 ml) brandy or rum. Shake vigorously until well chilled. Strain into a cocktail glass and top with ice, if desired. Garnish with an orange, apple or other citrus slice.
Party Sangria Cocktail: In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine 2 parts chilled Roja Sangria Mix, 1/2 part vodka and 1/2 part gin. Shake vigorously until well chilled. Strain into a cocktail glass filled with ice. Top with Cava or other sparkling wine and garnish with a citrus wheel.
Nonalcoholic Sangria: In an ice-filled glass, combine 1 part chilled Roja Sangria Mix and 1 part chilled sparkling water, adding more sparkling water if desired. Garnish with a citrus wheel.
