This flavor-packed peanut-y sauce makes everything better—and it’s a snap to prepare in a blender. Our recipe is just a guideline, so taste as you go and adjust the flavors to your liking. You can also sub other ingredients for what we’ve listed here. Want almond butter instead of peanut butter? No problem. No fresh limes on hand? Just add a little splash of vinegar instead. Love spice? Add as much chili garlic sauce (or sriracha) as your heart desires.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (5 oz./155 g) creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup (4 fl. oz./125 ml) water
  • 2 to 3 Tbs. fresh lime juice
  • 2 Tbs. oil (preferably sesame oil but a neutral oil will do!)
  • 1 to 2 Tbs. soy sauce
  • 1 to 2 Tbs. brown sugar, maple syrup or other sweetener
  • 2 to 6 tsp. chili-garlic sauce or red pepper flakes

Directions

For ingredients that include a range for the quantity, start with the lesser amount; you can always add more to taste. In a blender, combine the peanut butter, water, lime juice, oil, soy sauce, brown sugar and chili-garlic sauce and blend until smooth. The dip can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Makes about 1 1/2 cups (12 fl. oz./375 ml).
