Black Cherry Negroni Spritz

Italy’s quintessential cocktail, the Negroni, gets a refreshing summer update with this recipe, which replaces the sweetness of the traditional red vermouth with a mix of maraschino liqueur and muddled fresh cherries. A splash of sparkling wine makes the drink lighter and more refreshing so it’s perfect for daytime summer sipping.
Ingredients
- 3 fresh cherries, pitted
- 1 oz. (30 ml) gin
- 1 oz. (30 ml) Campari
- 1 oz. (30 ml) maraschino liqueur
- 2 oz. (60 ml) sparkling wine
- 1 marasca cherry, such as Luxardo
- 1 dried blood orange slice or strip of orange zest (optional)
Directions
In a cocktail shaker, using a muddler, crush the cherries until they release their juices. Add the gin, Campari, maraschino liqueur and ice and shake vigorously until well chilled. Strain into an ice-filled tumbler and top with the sparkling wine. Garnish with the marasca cherry and orange slice and serve immediately. Makes 1 drink.
