Breville Infuser Espresso Maker
Known as "The Infuser," the Breville BES840XL is engineered to deliver optimal espresso flavor in every cup. It pre-infuses ground coffee with low, steady water pressure before extraction, gently expanding the grinds before stepping up to high pressure. The result is a more even extraction, which produces beautifully rich, balanced coffee flavor. Select automatic one- or two-shot volumes at the touch of a button, or set your own volume with manual control.
- Easy programmable control offers preset 1 & 2 shot volumes, manual override, or reprogrammable volumes.
- An Italian 15-bar pump delivers water at the ideal pressure, while the 1600W stainless-steel Thermocoil and electronic PID temperature control ensure precise temperature during extraction for fullest flavor.
- Low-pressure pre-infusion gradually increases water pressure to gently expand grinds for an even extraction, balanced flavor and thick crema.
- Auto purge automatically adjusts water temperature after steam for optimal espresso extraction temperature.
- Stainless-steel swivel steam wand froths milk for lattes and cappuccinos.
- On-board removable tamper.
- Dispenses hot water instantly for Americanos.
- Dry Puck feature removes excess water from ground coffee after extraction for easy disposal.

Rated 1 out of 5 by GlennH from Don't buy! Quality/longevity issues! Purchased on 7/15/15. Nince months later, machine started making a weird electric-like buzzing noise when brewing and began leaking water below the unit--so much that it would run off the counter onto the floor. One year later (June 2016), right before expiration of factory warranty, had unit replaced by Breville (unfortunately they only replace with refurbished units, not brand new). Company representative asked me if I cleaned and descaled unit according to specifications in manual. I always cleaned with supplied tablets whenever the "clean" light came on, AND I have it marked on my calendar EVERY month to descale with 50% white vinegar/50% water as specified in the manual. The replacement unit worked fine until Dec 2016, when it started having the same problem as the original unit. Never again a Breville!Date published: 2017-02-04Rated 2 out of 5 by pmar from high maintenance Extra necessary cleaning product not included. I read the instructions and wished I could have read them before buying. Then I thought I should at least take it out of the box before returning it. Heavy. Hard to get out of the box and back in. My old expresso makes lasted over 15 years and were simple to use and maintain. The first was demonstrated at the store. These machines are never demonstrated by a pro.On line video is helpful but not the same.Date published: 2016-10-16Rated 4 out of 5 by HandyAndyF from Great Espresso for Home Use I bought this to replace an older unit that went bad. The 1 thing the old unit had that I miss is a double boiler. That allows you to froth milk and make espresso at the same time, which is great to make drinks for lots of people. The Breville double boiler costs more than 2x. This unit can do one of these operations at a time - not both at once. Other than that, it is a great unit, and would have given it 5 stars. I didn't even try the "learner" baskets - went right to the pro options. These do a much better job and give you more control. I immediately opted to get a heavier tamper made for this size basket. It is much easier to use than the small handle option that comes with the machine. It is very important to understand the moisture content of the beans you use and to grind them very fine. If they are dry, even more fine like flour. And then tamping to nearly 40 lbs is also important. After I got that all dialed in for this machine, it is great.Date published: 2016-08-26Rated 3 out of 5 by mawi from espresso machine I just bought this espresso maker having reviewed countless others. The price and appearance were acceptable and it had good reviews. I was disappointed that you have to get filters and cleaning tabs as this was not mentioned in the item discription. It made a good expresso on the first try, but there was no dry puck afterwards. I am not sure if my machine has a deficit or if there is a purposeful delay. Grounds came out wet and messy. Also, once the basket is in the portafilter it gets stuck - had to use a screwdriver head to pry it off. Hope it will shape up soon!Date published: 2013-05-16Rated 5 out of 5 by Tashi from Well made machine - perfect espresso We spent a considerable amount of time checking out espresso machines before deciding on this unit. It seemed to meet all of our requirements and upon delivery of the machine, that has, in fact, turned out to be the case. We mastered the unit quickly, and now find ourselves turning out cups of perfect espresso each time. The unit heats up immediately (very important early in the morning) and delivers espresso comparable to that in the various coffee bars we visit. The quality of the unit is impressive and we hope to enjoy it for many years.Date published: 2013-05-06
