You have to put just the right amount of meat at the bottom, press it to make an indent with that little thing, stuff it, put just the right amount of meat at the top, close it, press it again together, It is also a bit messy. It is so easy to use and the burgers come out PERFECT. I even let my 21 year old daughter do it and PERFECTION. I was excited when I found this and had to buy it. I thought this would make the burger making easier.. I was wrong. I had to press the burgers down myself and you have to use saran wrap so that the patties don't stick to the press. Then you have to peel the patties from the saran wrap. After only one practice burger I went to town and made a half dozen. I used several types of fillings and they were a hit with the fourth of July crowd. I was very happy with the results. Worked on the first try. Two of the three burgers just started to leak cheese out before I got them off the grill.
