Rated 5 out of 5 by AugustSteel from Beautiful, Pleased with My Purchase I saw Jars Cantine in my Williams-Sonoma store and immediately liked it. I loved the aqua colored place setting. Then I saw the price and decided the dishes were too expensive. However, I kept going back to the store to visit them. That's when I realized I should buy them. I visited williams-sonoma.com and saw that a 16-piece place setting was cheaper and I would get free shipping so I purchased it. So far I'm very pleased with the Jars Cantine dishes. They're an experience every time I use them because of the different textures (high-gloss tops and "uncoated" bottoms), beautiful colors, and the fact that no dish is exactly the same. The only drawback is that they get very hot in the microwave when heating food on them. If I warm up a dinner plate in the microwave, I make sure to put a hot pad on the table before placing that heated plate on it. I have a request of Williams-Sonoma: Please introduce a Jars Cantine teacup and saucer for entertaining.Date published: 2016-02-24Rated 5 out of 5 by SolangeD from Ooooooh, the colors! We have sets of four-piece place settings in red and orange. We also have coffee mugs in many colors. There have been no problems with getting the pieces clean in the dishwasher or with chipping. The glazes are absolutely wonderful. The orange has more variability than the red, so if that is an issue, choose your pieces in person in the store. We like the variability and love the crackle effect. Plates stack easily, mugs and bowls not so much. However, the sizes are great. Our decor is not at all MCM, but we happily use these any way, and lots of compliments come our way when we do. We tend to use the orange in the fall and the red at Christmas, but mixing and matching works well, too. Please bring back the turquoise and the emerald for spring!Date published: 2015-09-10Rated 5 out of 5 by DMTW from Beautiful! I have been deciding for months on new dinnerware for our renovated kitchen. Finally decided on the Jars Cantine. The dinnerware is absolutely beautiful. It came packaged extremely well, the pieces are very light weight and the coloring gorgeous. I purchased the orange and blue. I'm not accustom to the bottom of the plates and bowls not being glazed but I don't think it will be a problem. They take up half the space of my old dinnerware which is a real bonus. I found reading the other reviews very helpful in my decision making.Date published: 2015-08-03Rated 5 out of 5 by AllTexan from LOVE THIS DINNERWARE! After looking on and off for new dinnerware to replace our 20+ year old Dansk, I came upon these on the website. Went to the local store to see in person, and was blown away with the beautiful crackle glaze. I was a little worried after reading some of the reviews about chipping and cracking with microwave use and problems with the unglazed bottoms in the dishwasher, but decided to take a chance. I am so glad I did! We bought these in early December and used them the entire holiday - many dishwasher rounds, much microwave use, and hard use by preschool grandchildren that even dropped the plate on tile floors. Not a chip or crack to be seen! As for the unglazed bottoms, they are stacked in my cabinet and show no scratches or wear due to being stored in that manner. The bowls are perfect for soups, stews, salads, and cereals. The serving pieces are great sizes as well. In short, could not be happier with this purchase!Date published: 2015-01-07Rated 1 out of 5 by IsleofPalmsCook from Dishwashing ruins the unglazed bottom I took a very long time considering the options before investing in new dishes. I purchased TWO 16-piece sets of the Jars Cantine and they are very beautiful. The lovely unglazed bottoms, however, stain with food debris in the dishwasher. The aesthetics are ruined and the stains won't even come off using an SOS pad. One dish has broken (dropped) and one has chipped (don't know how) and I've had them for less than 7 months. So sad I made this OVER $700 investment!Date published: 2014-09-07Rated 5 out of 5 by fitzie from Everyday dishes I've had the dishes over a year and it was an excellent investment. I've had no issues with scratching and just love them for everyday use!!Date published: 2014-05-04Rated 4 out of 5 by chellebelle from Beautiful but not indestructible My first set was light blue in September 2013. My cobalt fiestaware was missing pieces after 10 years, 5 moves, one of them cross-country. I fell in love with the finish and color. They really are beautiful in person. Plates and bowls are perfect size. And photograph well for Instagram food shots. (ha) I added 4 of the mini bowls in white for condiments and spices. It was about that time that I broke one of the light blue bowls (technically my dog did, as he knocked off the counter) and shortly after that I dropped one of the mini bowls. I begrudgingly replaced at individual cost. Recently I added a set of the grey and they blend well together. The bowls and plates are used daily (I don't drink coffee, never used mugs) and beside the initial causalities are holding up well and I expect to last for years to come.Date published: 2014-03-24Rated 5 out of 5 by VGREENIE from Its Okay that the Backs are Not Glazed I'm writing for those of you who might hesitate because of the comments regarding the fact that the backs of the plates are not glazed. Some reviewers said that they felt the need to separate the plates in the cabinet to prevent scratching. It almost made me pass. Good news is that I don't think this is necessary. I've had the plates for two weeks, washed in dishwasher a number of times. They are fine. There IS a sound that they make when they rub against each other -- and the sound would make you THINK that the plates are being ruined. But the plates are fine. The plates are beautiful. The sizes are right for cabinets and dish washers. They stack very closely together, and we fit 16 in a regular size cabinet no problem. Especially like the size and shape of bowls - just big enough to double as a soup bowl, deep enough for cereal, and shallow enough to stack pretty well in a dishwasher. All in all, we expect these bowls to last a long time, and we are very happy with purchase.Date published: 2014-03-06
