How We Made This Hotel Feel Like Home
We partnered with the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa to transform one of their luxurious suites into an immersive Williams Sonoma Home experience, capturing the quality, comfort and style we’re known for in the first-ever Williams Sonoma Home Suite. Here’s how we did it.
The new suite launched with a layer of textiles, décor and entertainint pieces from the Rob and Lydia Mondavi Collection for Williams Sonoma Home. The collection was inspired by the winemaking family’s ties to the region and their casual, comfortable entertaining style.
“How wonderful is it to have some comforts of home when you’re traveling?” says Lainey Hollis, Head Designer for Williams Sonoma Home. Here, we made a small breakfast nook feel like a place to gather. “A large circular tray adds a focal point to the round table and the curves of the chic Sussex chairs echo the curved lines of the table and tray to really tie the space together,” says Hollis. The cutouts on the Sussex chairs also make the space feel airy and light, not crowded.
An inviting bed is so important at the end of a long travel day. “We chose beautiful white linens that feel luxurious and then accented them with the color of the season—in this case, chartreuse,” says Lainey. “This makes it easy to swap out the seasonal layer for tartan during the holidays or softer hues in the spring.” Another designer trick we used here: Creating symmetry on each side of the bed, with matching side tables, lamps and mirrors, to make the room feel larger.
“The acrylic coffee table lightens and brightens the space and crystal accents add freshness without crowding the room,” says Lainey. “Plus, you can never go wrong with fresh flowers—a single type and color is a simple way to make a statement.”
“People here live that way and so we wanted the space to flow easily from indoors to out,” says Lainey. To achieve that effect, we incorporated the same color and texture both indoors and out to give the space a cohesive feel. Soft cushions on the outdoor furniture make it a comfortable and inviting resting spot. “This is someplace where you can really unwind and spend time.”
