Cozy up in the cold winter months with a warm mocktail perfect for movie nights, cocktail parties and holiday feasts. It’s a perfect make-ahead drink—just transfer the mixture to a glass jar and keep in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups (32 oz./1 l) water
  • 8 oz. (250 g) fresh figs, halved, plus 4 halfs for garnish
  • 1 Tbs. honey
  • 1 star anise
  • 3 cloves
  • 1-inch (2.5-cm) knob fresh ginger, peeled
  • Pinch of ground nutmeg
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • Cinnamon sticks for garnish
  • Dried or fresh orange wheels for garnish

Directions:

In a saucepan over high heat, bring the water to a boil. Add the figs, honey, star anise, cloves, ginger and nutmeg. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer until the figs begin to soften, about 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool for 10 minutes.

Strain the mixture into a glass pitcher, pressing on the figs to release their juices. Add the lemon juice and stir.

Divide the drink among 4 mugs and garnish each with a cinnamon stick and orange wheel. Serve immediately. Serves 4.
