Rated 5 out of 5 by Dave from Very Pleased I had a cheaper handheld knife sharpener that did an okay job, and happened to see this on the Williams Sonoma site. I read reviews on several sites, and decided to purchase it from Williams Sonoma. I'm very pleased with the sharpener. It doesn't slip on the counter at all when using, it is comfortable to hold when using, and it is easy to glide the knife through to sharpen. I've been pleased with the sharpening results. It's done a good job for me.Date published: 2019-10-10Rated 5 out of 5 by Bernard from Excellent way to keep a knife sharp I have used one for quite some time and find it a handy, easy way to get a truly fine edge. Theoretically, this should be augmented with a few occasional swipes with a steel to straighten out microscopic bending at the edge. For best results work gently and sight down the blade so you keep it as vertical as possible. The classic and more durable c40-45 degree (total) angle will cut very well with this. The modern trend is toward narrower angles on some western style blades and double sided Asian blades. It is easy to go from narrow angle to wide angle, but not so easy the other way. If your blade gets significantly nicked up, this does not have the required power to deal with it. But be very careful with electrical grinders, as they can quickly over do it. Also, if no used very carefully, they can scratch the sides of the blade, as can a steel. You may want to have a professional sharpener deal with the blade if it is somewhat damaged. Incidentally, side scratching will not happen with this sharpener. You can probably find one for $30 or less. If somebody does not get good results they may be using the wrong setting. I am obsessive about sharp knives and this does a great job.Date published: 2018-01-06Rated 2 out of 5 by ladyslider from Not very good I've had this sharpener for over a year and can't see that it actually sharpens much of anything. I've tried it on several different knives, and the results are the same on all types.Date published: 2017-08-29
