Rated 1 out of 5 by TimJ from Not good for thick smoothies, and way too small I bought these a while ago hoping to replace my nutribullet and just have one thing on the counter for my blending needs. I have not experienced any problems leaking, but the cups are a horrible design for this. First of all the cup is way too small to make say a 12-16oz smoothie. The reason is the cup is very narrow and it has the ridges inside (making it even more narrow). So you can't get ingredients into it. For example a sliced apple will take up 1/2 of the container, by the time you add a couple more items it's full, worse yet because of the narrow "bottom" it does not blend well for thicker or frozen ingredients. Ingredients I could easily blend with a $79 nutribullet, would not blend with the these blending cups even after multiple attempts. In addition the cup is impossible to drink from unless you use the special lid. That's fine if you are making it to go, but if you want to just make something to drink you either have get a lit dirty and clean it, or pour it into a glass and wash two containers. I can blend, and clean my nutribullet before I can even finish blending with the vitamix. Now if you make very small (6-8oz) runny smoothies or want it for salad dressing etc. they are probably great. But for thicker frozen smoothies that are 10-12oz it's worthless. The one praise I would give the vitamix is when it did blend, it did make a smoother blend than the nutribullet, but it was so much hassle I don't even use it anymore. What they need is a container that has straight sides so the contents can move around to blend better, and a larger container so you can get enough ingredients into it to end up with a 10-12oz smoothie. The photo attached is the container with 1 cup of cucumber and 1/2 cup of baby carrots, and the container is full. Sure I could dice everything smaller and get more in there, but if I have to dice the ingredients first that's just way more time/hassle.Date published: 2018-03-07Rated 2 out of 5 by tallslenderguy from Depends on use I eat a whole food plant based diet (WFPBD) and end up using my Vitamix a couple of times a day. I drink 2 smoothies a day, one with fruit and berries, the other with veggies, both are 20oz. With my 64oz container, this is a fairly quick process, but I was excited about the 20 oz cup because I often make this to take to work with me, so was looking forward to having this. It didn't take but a few minutes to realize this container is made for a 20 oz end result, not for reducing down or blending down to a 20 oz result. It may work great for some. My morning smoothie has an orange, apple, banana, 1/2 cup frozen berries and a half inch of ginger root. I have an apple slicer, so there were 8 slices sans core and a peeled orange halved. That's all that fit, and that was crammed in there so tight that it lodged in the container and didn't make contact with the blades. Depending on what you want to blend, size matters. If you are blending larger items, (like the fruits i mentioned) or larger quantities that result in 20oz blends, you will have to do much more prep work and reduce their size first (witch sort of defeats part of the purpose of having a blender to do the work). Cool idea, but not functional for robust smoothies.Date published: 2018-03-03Rated 5 out of 5 by xKiiyox from Works great if you line them up correctly I avoided purchasing this product for a long time due to the negative reviews that stated it doesn't work. Then I learned why everybody was having a hard time. The trick is to align the arrows on the cup and the base at the start, and then turn one full rotation around so the arrows match back up again. This makes it so that the cup is tight enough that it won't leak, but not too tight that it's hard to unscrew after. The permanent arrows are not very noticeable, so I can understand why so many people had an issue. However, when you first receive your product you will see a big arrow sticker on each piece that shows you the location of the subtle permanent arrow. I found these to be very convenient and work very well. I would highly recommend them!Date published: 2018-01-31Rated 5 out of 5 by Tifd1988 from Ignore the bad reviews! I was hesitant to purchase these because of the negative reviews, but after using them for over a month, I can confidently say that the negative reviews are 100% due to user error. If you read the information that comes with the cups, you will find out that you need to align the cup and the base correctly in order for your Vitamix to detect it. Failure to line up the base correctly so the blender does not recognize the cup is not the Vitamix's fault, but that of those who wrote a negative review. Buy these! You won't be disappointed!Date published: 2018-01-20Rated 5 out of 5 by Silvani from Very convenient! I got the starter kit a few months ago and it's been good so far. There was a point I thought the container was leaking but turned out to be that the seal was placed incorrectly. I also thought the container was not being recognized by my blender, it turns out I was tightening it too much and it caused some misalignment. It's working great now!Date published: 2017-12-21Rated 1 out of 5 by LeslieInVa from Stopped working I bought this less than two months ago, excited at the prospect of making smoothies without using the 64 ounce regular blender. The machine no longer recognizes the base. I’d suggest refraining from buying until Vitamix works out the kinks.Date published: 2017-12-19Rated 1 out of 5 by jjf112 from Stopped working after 2.5 months It was good for a little bit. Good not great. There was some leakage and it was sometimes hard for the blender to recognize the cup. Now the blender doesn't recognize the cup at all. I contacted WS support and they said since it has been 30 days there is nothing they can do. Vitamix support said they have no replacement cups to give out at this time. I don't even know what that means. I replied, but they never responded to my questions.Date published: 2017-11-30Rated 1 out of 5 by MsDena from Bad Design I was so happy to purchase my Starter kit because I was looking forward to making my morning smoothie in the same container that I could drink out of. The slim design fits perfectly in my cup holder, but it is not the best for actually blending my smoothie. It's also hard to tell when everything is locked into place and during that first week, it disengaged while blending and my smoothie was spread graciously around my kitchen. ( I had spirulina in it and it was a disaster) So now, I'm back to using the original (which is way too big for a single smoothie) and just pouring it into my blending cup, which kind of defeats the reason I bought them. I make a lot of dressings and spreads and was contemplating buying the bowls, but I'm leery. These items aren't cheap and I don't want to spend that amount of money on something that doesn't function the way it's suppose to.Date published: 2017-09-01
