Rated 4 out of 5 by Irish170 from Clean lines, versatile design. I purchased two corner units and six wide units to put in my recently refurbished basement. I had purchased several units of this shelving nearly 20 years ago for use in our laundry room, and had good luck with them. This group of shelves came with a couple of the uprights warped, and also a couple of the shelves warped, but once assembled, those seemed to straighten out well enough. There is NO way to assemble these alone, be sure you have a patient friend to help you. The biggest issue we had in this newest set was that EVERY ONE of the steel support rods that hold up the shelf ends had a burr on each end of the rod, making it nearly impossible to thread the brass fasteners through the uprights. Once we figured out what was making it so difficult, we were able to file the burrs off of the steel rods before we inserted them, and then things went quickly. That is clearly a manufacturing flaw, probably just poor machining. Do yourself a favor and have a small metal file on hand, file the ends of every single one of the steel shelf rods beforehand, and then your assembly will be fairly painless. I still like the look and relative sturdiness of these shelves, and having gotten them on sale was a bonus. If the frustration of the support rods hadn't happened, I would have given this item 5 stars.Date published: 2019-05-06Rated 2 out of 5 by Verified Purchaser from Poor construction and Design I purchased the corner shelving unit. Off the bat, I was disappointed with the quality of the wood pieces. Many of them had splinters sticking out along the edges and where the holes are drilled. One of the vertical uprights had a 3-4 inch long crack. Also, one of steel support rods was significantly bent (luckily I was able to straighten it out enough so it was usable). One of the things that I was drawn to about this unit was the supposedly "adjustable" shelves. While it is accurate that the shelves can be placed at a variety of different heights, I expect adjustable shelves to be able to be rearranged relatively easily and conveniently. However with this unit, you essentially have to disassemble the entire thing (unscrew every fastener and pull apart the entire frame) just to move one shelf. And with how challenging assembly was, I would never want to go through that hassle again. I assembled the unit myself, which I wouldn't recommend (will go smoother with a second person). Make sure you follow the advice about only screwing the fasteners one turn! The most challenging part comes at the end trying to get the shelves to fit onto the steel support rods that are attached to the corner post. I had to use a hammer to get the fasteners to pop up into the track on the underside of the shelves. Assembled it is decently stable (though anchoring it is the smartest move). Two of my shelves aren't perfectly flush where the angled right/left boards meet due to the fact that the pre-drilled holes are not all perfectly aligned. Overall, the unit is a letdown. I'd return it if I hadn't already been through a hassle with customer service in getting it to me in the first place (It shipped in 2 packages and UPS returned one to William Sonoma without consulting me thinking it was a duplicate order, so had to wait several extra days for WS to send me replacement) and disassembling it would be a real pain.Date published: 2018-04-19Rated 1 out of 5 by Nicola from Poor quality, I agree with LL Flimsy, poor quality. Wood not at all as depicted in picture. We had hoped to use this in a closet but it was so warped that we couldn't put it together without using the screws to tighten it into submission and it is only stable if it is secured to the wall. Down to the basement it goes and goodbye to the money we spent.Date published: 2018-01-20Rated 4 out of 5 by cowgirl29 from Follow Instructions! I bought the corner unit to fit in our small, farmhouse pantry. I liked that the shelves are slated, adjustable, and that you can add on other features. My only comment is on assembly: Unless you are looking for a self-inflicted lesson in patience and frustration -- READ & FOLLOW THE ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS! Then the unit should go together much more simply. It is also helpful to have two people working together.Date published: 2018-01-04Rated 4 out of 5 by JB in MN from Great Shelves, but Made to be Attached to the Wall I purchased one of the wide units about five years ago - specifically because the shelves were adjustable so I could have a couple specifically for storing canned goods. While this was not the easiest unit to install by yourself (much easier with four hands), what was immediately apparent is that these were meant to be built-in units. When screwed into studs in the wall, this shelf was amazingly sturdy and strong. You can used it free-standing, but make sure (once you get everything where you want it) you tighten everything very tight. I used it free-standing for a couple of years and it worked well, but only after I went back and tightened everything up.Date published: 2017-08-31Rated 5 out of 5 by LizzieA from great shelving, long lasting I've had the Swedish shelving for many years. They shelves still look good, they're very sturdy, and they hold a lot. They were in my laundry room for 10+ years, holding laundry soaps, cleaning supplies, vases, serving baskets, and more. Only one problem: when we moved the hardware to put the shelves together was lost, and so I am without shelving. W-S doesn't sell replacement hardware nor I can't find a hardware store that does. So I am out hundreds of dollars because of unuseable shelving.Date published: 2017-07-14Rated 5 out of 5 by kiki from Sturdy, clean lines, fits anywhere I have been buying thse units for 15 years and they are still being used in my home as bookcases and room dividers, as well as pantry and garage storage. They are strong and so easy to reconfigure. They are versatile and have a lovely grain in the pine.Date published: 2017-05-20Rated 1 out of 5 by LLMiller from Poor quality Incredibly flimsy. Not sturdy at all. Two of the long wood pieces were warped. Every time I take something off the shelf, the whole unit sways back and forth. The quality of the materials is very poor, especially for the price.Date published: 2017-02-02
