Rated 5 out of 5 by KBTmom from Hardworking Dutch Oven that is Gorgeous I've never owned a dutch oven, even though I have a lot of kitchen items! I cook almost all of our meals either inside or outside (gas grill and kamado grill). This is a welcome addition to my kitchen. Growing up, I remember my aunt cooking with LC. After some research, I chose Staub. I prefer the dark enamel interior which has been easy to clean. And the basting system in the lid works really well. I chose grenadine, which is stunning! All the colors are beautiful. Personally, the oval shape was the way to go for a first piece, working well with a chicken (well, our family prefers capons) or roast as well as standard recipes. The flat bottom allows you to have a large area to brown meat vs the rounded bottoms. The size is also versatile for many recipes, but larger families (6 or more) might want to consider a bigger version. This oven is fairly heavy, but all cast iron ovens will be heavy. The rooster finial is great. A whimsical touch that is also very practical! The larger uneven shape makes grabbing the lid with an oven mitt very easy and secure. It is large to store, but luckily I have plenty of cabinet storage. My favorite recipe in this dutch oven is America's Test Kitchen/Cook's Illustrated French Style Pot Roasted Pork Loin. I was surprised to find the best pork roast I have ever tasted after only 1 hour in a 225 degree oven. It was tender and juicy and flavorful - and reheated the next day to be just as good... Now to find more good recipes!Date published: 2017-11-16Rated 4 out of 5 by Kndred1 from Missing Rooster Finial ! Just purchased the item at a WS retail store and excited to use my Saphire Blue Coq Au Vin.... but I did not get the rooster finial with my purchase. I only found out that it was supposed to be included by reading online. IF you purchase, make sure you get both the rooster and round finial :(Date published: 2017-01-04Rated 5 out of 5 by CookwareHound from My New Favorite I have several Cast Iron dutch overns, but this one really works well for a one pot whole chicken meal. I browned the chicken in the pot and then through in all of the vegies and slid it into the oven. Everyone loved this first meal out of my Staub Coq Au Vin, and they can't wait until I invite them over for the next great meal. Those little tabs on the inside of the lid sure make it nice so you don't have to baste the bird. I still can't believe how moist and tasty that chicken turned out. I highly recommend Staub cookware. I have the grill too, and that is so easy to clean up after. Just soap and hot water and the baked on food just comes off with a scrub brushing. It's an investment in cookware, but I am pleased with my purchase.Date published: 2015-06-14Rated 5 out of 5 by INNATLWA from A Wonderful Splurge Used for first time to make a pot roast! The meat was tender. Cooked on low 250 degrees for two hours in oven with shitake mushrooms, onions and organic mushroom soup. WOW! Wish I had not waited so long to purchase this cast iron pot. Made a great decision! Worth every $$$! Thank-you WS for the # 1 price! Shopped around and this price could not be beat!Date published: 2014-10-07Rated 5 out of 5 by mpstat from Must have for poultry If you cook poultry this is a must have item. Coq Au Vin was one of the first Staub items I purchased (and I have many). Initially my husband commented on how expensive it was. However, he was amazed at how tender and wonderful a duck stuffed with apples came out of Coq Au Vin. Afterwords he did not object getting other Staub cast iron pieces.Date published: 2014-04-12Rated 5 out of 5 by ColoradoExplorer from Does everything you hope it will and so much mo After thinking and reading numerous reviews and comparisons with LeCreuset products, I finally took the plunge and purchased the 5-3/4 qt Coq Au Vin. I only wish I hadn't waited. Exceptional quality - exceptional results. Cleaning is easy, browns beautifully and I love the black interior. Never leaves a residue, always looks like new. I couldn't wait to use it. Its maiden voyage was Ina Garten's Company Pot Roast - a total and complete hit. Followed by French-style Chicken and Stuffing by America's Test Kitchen; and countless other dishes from Pasta sauce to my Quinoa Mixed Grill. Every meal has been simply outstanding. Admittedly, the first week, it sat proudly on my Viking stove. It was like getting getting a golden ticket... but now I keep it safe and sound, stored. Its a workhorse and gets used numeous times a week. Will last a lifetime!Date published: 2014-04-09Rated 5 out of 5 by Standards from Love this versatile pot. My family and I thoroughly enjoy the meals I prepare in this lovely oven. The meat browns beautifully and the vegetables are tender. You can cook various meat dishes, stews, and chilis. It is a solid investment for the kitchen. I purchased the Emerald Green and it looks beautiful sitting on my stove top with the rooster finial. I highly recommend it for the discerning cook!Date published: 2014-01-15Rated 5 out of 5 by LacyL from Ooooh la la! I LOVE this coquette! Obvious quality and just adorable with the petit coq as the handle. I bought it to match my red Viking stove, so it is always on display, not stored, and makes a great presentation! PERFECT for Julia Child's Coq au vin recipe, but also for anything else for which you need this size pot...soup, stew, a roast etc.Date published: 2013-11-03
