Cast iron’s unparalleled ability to retain heat makes this oven a great choice for slow cooking homemade chili or a hearty stew. Staub’s innovative enamel coating takes cooking with cast iron to the next level with improved performance, style and durability.
- Color selections feature glossy multi-coat enameling that ensures strength and heat resistance and creates a vibrantly colored “majolique” finish similar in appearance to fine ceramic for oven-to-table presentation.
- Matte Black selection features multi-coat enameling with low-gloss matte finish.
- Resistant to rust, chipping and cracking, the coating requires no additional seasoning like some other cast-iron pieces.
- The specially formulated black matte interior enamel of each piece contains traces of quartz, giving it additional heat resistance and a textured surface that results in better browning.
- The smooth enameled base is compatible with all cooktops including induction.
- Dozens of precisely placed bumps on the lid’s interior funnel evaporated juices directly back down on top of the food for more even basting.
- Extra-heavy lid seals in moisture for tender, flavorful results.
- Lid knob on Red is made of nickel-plated brass; lid knob on Black Matte is brass.

- More about Staub
Staub traces its origin to the Alsace region of France, where founder Francis Staub designed his first enameled pot while working in an old French artillery factory in 1974. With the goal of creating the perfect pot for cooking the region’s traditional hearty soups, stews and braises, he combined cast iron, the most popular material of the time, with the latest enameling technology available. Today, Staub still makes its cookware at a traditional atelier in France, casting each pot in an individual sand mold, which is heated to 800°F and destroyed after use. The exterior enamel coating is made with glass powder and mineral pigments, applied in two or three coats to generate brilliant glossy colors.
Rated 5 out of 5 by coffeedawgs from The pinnacle We have had for a couple of weeks now and are totally happy with this oven. The first thing I made was a french style roast chicken. My wife said more than once that it was the best chicken that she ever had and I agree with her. Moist and tender. The next day I made a pot of pintos without issue. They simmered for several hours and turned out perfect. Onto the quality of the oven: unbelievable. The lid is perfect fitting, clean up is a breeze. This just has to be the pinnacle of quality and durability. We do just admire the beauty of it. It really is a beauty (quality, color, fit and finish) and a beast (can take anything we pitch at it). We liked it so much that we have ordered another 3 pieces of Staub and several more on the 'wish list.' Can't go wrong with this. Thanks WS for prompt delivery.Date published: 2020-01-09Rated 5 out of 5 by Thrilled from Must have! I am in love with this. First I did a traditional carrot halwa. Then a chicken and potato soup. Then a spaghetti bolognese. No matter what I cook it’s simply awesome. Most of all, I love the lid.Date published: 2020-01-07Rated 5 out of 5 by Hobbitgirl from Expensive BUT WORTH IT! Yes, the Staub Dutch Oven, is expensive, but when it comes to culinary endeavors Staub pays off it giving me the exactly what I need, perfection. If I braise meat, it releases the meat perfectly leaving me with the flavor in the meat. Don’t want a lot of flavor leaking out of my pot, well this lid allows the flavors to remain in the pot. For years I resisted the buying Staub because I have a glass top range, but I said to heck with it and jumped. I have experienced any marring of my range, but I also have never dragged a pot across it. I have always used higher end cookware, but I have now fallen in love with Staub. Everything taste better in Staub.Date published: 2019-12-29Rated 5 out of 5 by Anntee from Great Cocotte! Love my cocotte! It's the perfect size for two. So glad I selected the size.Date published: 2019-12-18Rated 4 out of 5 by Planevanilla from You will like this one Nice size and will be very useful. The only blemish I could find is a slight mismatch on the color of the top with the bottom. Is not super noticeable except by me. Otherwise looks great and I am very pleased overall since it was excellently priced. Overall great quality and recommended.Date published: 2019-12-08Rated 5 out of 5 by Danny B from Love it Very happy with my new Cocotte! HELLO. I ORDER TO MAKE BREAD WITH MY COCOTTE- CAN I PLACE THE MATTE BLACK COCOTTE IN THE OVEN AT 450 F, TO PREHEAT, WHILE THE COCOTTE IS EMPTY? THE INSTRUCTION BOOK MENTIONS THIS BUT IT'S A BIT CONFUSING. THANKSMany bread recipes call for preheating the cookware at high temperatures for an extended period of time. Heating the cocotte empty at high heat can damage the enamel, causing it to crack and/or flake, so we do not recommend doing this. Because our enameled cast iron has a conductive aluminum core and great heat retention, you can briefly preheat the cocotte (no longer than 10 minutes) or skip preheating all together for the same results.Date published: 2020-01-01
Is this pot no sticky Our Staub cast iron is not treated with a nonstick coating, so you will have to use cooking fat and/or season the cookware to prevent sticking.Date published: 2019-12-29
I want to give this as a gift. If the recipient has a glass stove top will this absolutely not work on that type of stove? I am not sure of the stove type that the person has. Our Staub cast iron works on all cooking surfaces, including glass cooktops. We do however ask that you check with the stovetop manufacturer to ensure they have no restrictions on any specific cooking vessels.Date published: 2019-12-13

Guess I should have asked this in my previous question....can thiS pot and cover be placed empty in a 400 to 500 degree oven.....safely.? I want to try the no knead recipe but am worried that the pot will be damaged.....Hi Calsie, This is oven safe up to 500°F. It should be fine for you to do a no knead recipe in it, which asks for the Dutch oven to be preheated in a 450°F oven for 30 minutes.Date published: 2019-02-24
