Use & Care

Use

  • Ideal for use on any cooktop, including induction; not recommended for glass stove tops.
  • Oven and broiler safe up to 500°F.
  • For best results use low to medium heat.
  • When using high heat, bring pans slowly to a high temperature.
  • Use plastic, wood or nylon utensils only; metal utensils may damage the enamel.
  • Enamel may chip or crack if banged against a hard surface.
  • Handles and knobs can become very hot. Always use pot holder or glove when handling.

Care

  • Allow pan to cool before washing.
  • Dishwasher safe.
  • Stubborn stains can be removed by soaking your pot for a few minutes in hot, soapy water.
  • Completely dry pan before storing.
  • Avoid using steel wool, steel scouring pads, harsh detergents, bleach or abrasive cleaners.

If within 30 days, you are dissatisfied for any reason, you may return your purchase for a refund of the merchandise value. An original receipt or gift receipt is required for all returns and exchanges. More about Staub

Staub traces its origin to the Alsace region of France, where founder Francis Staub designed his first enameled pot while working in an old French artillery factory in 1974. With the goal of creating the perfect pot for cooking the region’s traditional hearty soups, stews and braises, he combined cast iron, the most popular material of the time, with the latest enameling technology available. Today, Staub still makes its cookware at a traditional atelier in France, casting each pot in an individual sand mold, which is heated to 800°F and destroyed after use. The exterior enamel coating is made with glass powder and mineral pigments, applied in two or three coats to generate brilliant glossy colors.

My wife said more than once that it was the best chicken that she ever had and I agree with her. Moist and tender. The next day I made a pot of pintos without issue. They simmered for several hours and turned out perfect. Onto the quality of the oven: unbelievable. The lid is perfect fitting, clean up is a breeze. This just has to be the pinnacle of quality and durability. We do just admire the beauty of it. It really is a beauty (quality, color, fit and finish) and a beast (can take anything we pitch at it). We liked it so much that we have ordered another 3 pieces of Staub and several more on the 'wish list.' Can't go wrong with this. Thanks WS for prompt delivery.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive BUT WORTH IT! Yes, the Staub Dutch Oven, is expensive, but when it comes to culinary endeavors Staub pays off it giving me the exactly what I need, perfection. If I braise meat, it releases the meat perfectly leaving me with the flavor in the meat. Don’t want a lot of flavor leaking out of my pot, well this lid allows the flavors to remain in the pot. For years I resisted the buying Staub because I have a glass top range, but I said to heck with it and jumped. I have experienced any marring of my range, but I also have never dragged a pot across it. I have always used higher end cookware, but I have now fallen in love with Staub. Everything taste better in Staub.

Is not super noticeable except by me. Otherwise looks great and I am very pleased overall since it was excellently priced. Overall great quality and recommended.

  • HELLO. I ORDER TO MAKE BREAD WITH MY COCOTTE- CAN I PLACE THE MATTE BLACK COCOTTE IN THE OVEN AT 450 F, TO PREHEAT, WHILE THE COCOTTE IS EMPTY? THE INSTRUCTION BOOK MENTIONS THIS BUT IT'S A BIT CONFUSING. THANKS

    Many bread recipes call for preheating the cookware at high temperatures for an extended period of time. Heating the cocotte empty at high heat can damage the enamel, causing it to crack and/or flake, so we do not recommend doing this. Because our enameled cast iron has a conductive aluminum core and great heat retention, you can briefly preheat the cocotte (no longer than 10 minutes) or skip preheating all together for the same results.

    Is this pot no sticky

    Our Staub cast iron is not treated with a nonstick coating, so you will have to use cooking fat and/or season the cookware to prevent sticking.

    I want to give this as a gift.  If the recipient has a glass stove top will this absolutely not work on that type of stove?  I am not sure of the stove type that the person has.

    Our Staub cast iron works on all cooking surfaces, including glass cooktops. We do however ask that you check with the stovetop manufacturer to ensure they have no restrictions on any specific cooking vessels.

    Guess I should have asked this in my previous question....can thiS pot and cover be placed empty in a 400 to 500 degree oven.....safely.? I want to try the no knead recipe but am worried that the pot will be damaged.....

    Hi Calsie, This is oven safe up to 500°F. It should be fine for you to do a no knead recipe in it, which asks for the Dutch oven to be preheated in a 450°F oven for 30 minutes.
