Replicating the benefits of baking in a brick oven, the ceramic bread cloche turns out individual loaves with tender, moist interiors and crispy, evenly golden crusts. The unglazed clay absorbs heat to ensure even baking on all sides, while the porous surface absorbs moisture to give the crust a crispy bite. Use the cloche to both proof and bake your loaf – ridges inside the bell produce proofing lines in the crust for a classic bakery-style finish.

Use & Care


  • For oven use only.
  • Clay will darken with use.
  • Always start in a cold oven. Cloche should not be placed in a preheated oven, as it needs to slowly increase in temperature
  • Use mitts when removing hot cloche from the oven.
  • Place hot cloche on a trivet or hot pad. 
  • Avoid rapid changes in temperature.


  • To clean, rinse with warm water and scrub with a scouring pad.
  • Do not wash with soap.
  • Coat with cooking oil to season.
  • Dry thoroughly before storing.
  • Store in a dry, well-ventilated place.

For an additional charge of $26 per address, we can expedite delivery to most destinations. Orders received by 9:00 p.m. ET Monday through Thursday will arrive the next business day; orders placed Friday through Sunday will arrive on the following Tuesday.

Return Policy

At Williams Sonoma, we take great pride in the quality and craftsmanship of our products. Attention to design, materials, safety and construction are our priority. Upon receipt, please inspect your purchase and notify us of any damage; we will arrange for a prompt replacement.

If within 30 days, you are dissatisfied for any reason, you may return your purchase for a refund of the merchandise value. An original receipt or gift receipt is required for all returns and exchanges. Returns with a gift receipt will be refunded in the form of a Merchandise Credit for the amount indicated on the gift receipt. Returns with original receipt will be refunded in the original form of payment, cash and check refunds over $100 will be issued as a company check (may take 14 business days from time of request).

  • Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful piece - but description is inaccurate This is a beautiful piece of earthenware, but the description is inaccurate "Use the cloche to both proof and bake your loaf—ridges inside the bell produce proofing lines in the crust for a classic bakery-style finish." The interior of the cloche lid / bell is SMOOTH. It does not have any ridges at all. Note that the recipe issue mentioned in a previous review has also been corrected, so perhaps the manufacturer has updated the design.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from La Cloche Bread Cloche I've been baking sourdough for a few years now, and I believe anyone baking bread at home NEEDS one of these! The results are awesome. I have a brick wood fired oven in the back yard, which is the best way to bake bread. However that necessitates building a fire and hours of heat up. With the La Cloche the results are close to the brick oven and a lot less work. Just get one, you will not be disappointed.

But now we are rent and the place only provide very traditional big oven which gives quite rough temp control. To improve the condition, we bought the Cloche. This products met 100% my expectation. This is great tool to bake bread at home. We have not tried to roast meat but it should be good too. The size is good for usual family (2 adults and 2 kids).

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great all-around! I've used the cloche for cooking tenderloin and for making bread. The results were great - husband waiting eagerly to dig in and no leftovers. Easy and efficient! The bottom of the cloche is darkening nicely, as the owner's booklet indicated. Sure sign that it is a loved addition to my kitchen.

    Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice but.... First of all I want to say it helps make GREAT bread. The downside is the size of the cloche. I've made three different types of bread in this and each raised and spread to the size of the bottom of the cloche. I love the round loaves and it's not really mentioned in the description but it's the ELEVEN INCH wide loaves of bread I am not so happy with. That size is why just three stars. I am now wishing I had bought the rectangular version or that a smaller version was available. A seven or eight inch version of the same thing would be ideal. Eleven inch bread is unwieldy in my opinion. I've been cutting them up in quarters and freezing the sections. Trying to figure out a solution I tried putting a normal loaf size stoneware pan inside the cloche and then bake my bread dough inside. Worked beautifully. When I can find a round stoneware pan that fits inside I'll transition to that. Or maybe just look for a slightly smaller version of this and then happy trails.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes a beautiful loaf of bread I received this as a gift, and I love it. I wasn't able to use the recipe it comes with due to an allergy, but it makes a nice-looking bread (of my own recipe, at least) that is tender on the inside with a nice, crisp crust.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best bread ever! I have had my Cloche for several months and gave away my bread machine! This makes the best bread ever! My daughter started using mine and wants one too! I found that bread is best with no more than 1 cup bread flour and the rest regular. I am now looking for a sour dough starter to try!

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Homemade bread I've been preparing my own bread for a long time, and oftener wondered if using a bread stone would provide more crust for my soups & stews. I purchased this particular item with big expectations. It did not let me down! The bottom of the bread is golden brown, top perfect crunch. I would recommend this item to of those enjoy a good loaf of crusty bread. Excellent paired with cheese, fruit, or steaming bowl of homemade vegetable soup! The clean up is simply a wet towel to wipe off the bottom stone... Stores easily... Bottom can be used for small pizza.
