Since the early 1980s, Texas Tamale in Houston has been making gourmet, lard-free tamales, combining smooth masa with savory fillings, and wrapping them in cornhusks. It's been a recipe for success: The company started in a home kitchen, branched out to a street cart and ultimately opened its own brick-and-mortar deli. Their pork tamales have the perfect balance of soft masa and tender pork with a bit of a kick from piquant chiles. Gluten, lard and trans-fat free, they’re fully cooked. Just steam or microwave to enjoy a real Tex-Mex treat in minutes.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Mchat from Disappointed I love Tamales, but these tamales were bland, little favor/ taste. A sauce added might have made some difference. I had to make one. I found them to be greatly overpriced. Will not order again, an expensive disappointment!Date published: 2015-07-11
