Rated 5 out of 5 by Stacy from Expensive, but a good purchase overall I have used the pasta maker twice so far and both times it worked great. From reading some of the other reviews it seems like people are overthinking it- the selling point of this machine is the fact that you don't have to measure the flour- just pour some in and the machine tells you how much water to add. I did find it a bit frustrating the "cup" for the flour measurement was not included, so you do have to make an educated guess as to how much flour to put in, but you can't screw it up. The machine tells you exactly how much liquid to add, so your flour doesn't have to be exact- and that is why I chose this one over the other pasta makers. Note: The very first time I used it I didn't let the scale zero out, so I had to pour my flour out and then turn the machine on and let the scale zero and then add the flour- this was my error for not reading the instructions.Date published: 2020-01-21Rated 1 out of 5 by NHanna from Don't waste your money and time! The weight measurement does not work, the instructions include two pages of warnings, half a page of inaccurate instructions on how to use the machine and partial recipes. It is also very challenging to clean. I searched online for help, called Philips and was passed around to several people during my dinner-making hour, only to finally be told that someone would call me back in 48 hours. They never did. It is a time-wasting piece of disappointing junk. I tried and tried to love this machine because I wanted it so much---but its going back.Date published: 2020-01-18Rated 2 out of 5 by SkierMike from Weight measurement is useless! As the other reviews mention the weight measurement system on this machine is absurd. It displays weight in "cups", but wait it's not a U.S. 8 oz size cup as one might imagine. The "cup" refers to a 250 gram cup that Philips used to include with their machines. Of course that cup is not included with this machine ... Seriously? I'm sorry but who thought this was a good idea? Why not show the weight in a measure of, oh I don't know ...weight? How about grams or ounces? I bought this machine because of the weighing function so I could add different types of flour without having to weigh them separately. The only way that works is to know that "cup" means about 250 grams. So if I want to add 200 grams of semolina I have to add 0.8 cups, and you only know that after having to research on the internet what a "cup" means on this machine since it's not a standard cup. Even worse, the recipie book included has everything in grams not "cups", and the manual actually says the display should show grams. So you'll also get to waste time searching for how to change the display from cups to grams, which you can't. That said, the liquid recommendation from the auto weigh is a nice feature, and it does make very good pasta. So 4-5 stars for the end result, 1 star for the moronic display design that makes this unnecessarily hard to use.Date published: 2020-01-11Rated 5 out of 5 by Lizard from Awesome Pasta! Love this machine. I just pour in about 3/4 c flour and the rest semolina. Add an egg and water perfect pasta. We made linguine and shell noodles the first day. Son and daughter in law loved how it worked. Buying more semolina tomorrow.Date published: 2020-01-05Rated 4 out of 5 by Steve K from Good pasta, ridiculous measurement Like the previous reviewer indicated, the auto-scale measures flour in "cups." It is amazing that Philips would do such a thing. And what's worse is that if you put in a standard US cup of flour, no matter if it's scooped from the flour bag or packed down, the scale reading isn't close to a cup. What's happening here is that Philips used to supply a flour "cup" with their machines; I put it in quotes because it wasn't a true US-one-cup measure, but rather it was a scoop which held approximately 250 grams of flour. Someone at Philips decided it would be a good idea to have the auto-measure unit - which does not include one of these flour scoops - measure flour in units of "cups" that are really "scoops." So when you see "1.00 cups" flashing on the unit's display, that's actually saying "250 grams." It's the most ridiculous thing and it's totally baffling when you realize that the product designers, managers, and testers thought this was OK.Date published: 2020-01-04Rated 5 out of 5 by Court from ABSOLUTELY PURCHASE! This is one of the best kitchen gadgets we have ever purchased. We made four batches the first night and it was so easy. Clean up is also easy. I’m already planning what to make next!Date published: 2020-01-02Rated 5 out of 5 by Vana from So EASY to use I got this as a Christmas gift and I could not be happier. As an Italian-American I was sceptical. But it worked!!!! Much to my suprise... This was easier than making it by hand and i can use every pasta recipe I know except gnocchi. It's about he same size and weight as my stand-mixer so I don't mind the size or weight.. I cook everyday and pasta is a staple dish in my kitchen so this is a 2 thumbs up for me. If you love to cook this is a MUST HAVE!!!!!Date published: 2019-12-31Rated 4 out of 5 by RFofQc from Measuring gets confusing The panel measures flour in “cup” fractions. I wish it showed grams.Date published: 2019-12-27
