Rated 1 out of 5 by Shiloh from Love-hate relationship A few years ago, I was treated to dinner at an Italian restaurant in Boston. Since I was a guest, I ordered the cheapest dish on the menu, which was a plain pasta with tomatoes and fresh basil. (Usually, I order fancier pasta, with shrimp, for example- something to make the pasta spectacular.) But this was actually the best pasta I've ever had- the fresh pasta and sauce made all the difference. When I returned home, I immediately ordered a pasta attachment for my Kitchen Aid mixer, and a machine to make fresh tomato sauce. What a royal pain! I made pasta once (for more than $100 for the attachment) and I was DONE! I thought this machine might give me the results I had hoped for without the hassle...no such luck. It comes with only 3 pasta shapes, unfortunately, and I didn't want to pay double the price for more shapes, so I thought I'd make do. I frequently use small pasta like macaroni, oriechette, etc., for soups and pasta salads. I thought the penne feature on this machine would suffice...but no! The penne is very dense and chewy; I actually prefer dried pasta to this for soup and pasta salads. The spaghetti and fettuccine come out fine (and I love that I can use my own organic flours). But, as I'm now seeing in other reviews, there is a LOT of waste! Definitely NOT a pound of pasta! Very small portion. You can see the problem as the machine works: the dough, which should be propelled to the front of the machine for extrusion, gets stuck in the back and so cannot be extruded. I cannot tell you how many times I've had to stop the machine , and physically remove the dough, and place it in the front of the machine, and force it into the extruder. I have to do this several times throughout the process. And while doing this, sometimes the mixing compartment becomes detached from the machine and it is HARD to set it back in. I have, unfortunately, used the Lord's name in vain countless times while trying to make pasta. And it always leaves a lot of unused dough leftover, no matter how many times I stop the machine and put the dough into the extruder. And cleaning it? Seriously! This alone is daunting! You have to disassemble a bunch of parts and wash/scrub them individually, and the discs that form the pasta are eternally clogged. You have to manually poke through each hole multiple times to remove the dough, and that is AFTER soaking! For the penne disc, for example, there are 3 holes for each piece of pasta, so you have to poke through a LOT of holes to clean it, which totally negates this machine as a time-saver. I have come to LOATHE making pasta, but continue to do so to justify the price, and the fact that I BEGGED my husband to buy this for me because FRESH PASTA IS THE BEST! Ha! I wish I had never uttered those words!Date published: 2017-06-03Rated 2 out of 5 by Tobin D from Good, but..... It is actually pretty easy to use. But for me it takes too long and too much trouble to clean up. I cannot do it in the long run. Have to give it away.Date published: 2017-04-10Rated 3 out of 5 by jim h from Good & quick, but a decent amount of waste. The process is very quick (~10 min), and the pasta quality is good, given that there isn't really a kneading process to develop the gluten. One thing that I do not like is that about 15% of the ingredients that you put in do not end up being in the pasta. They form clumps and stick to/remain in the inside of the container. Philips designs an extra extrusion setting for this situation, but it does not help much. If this is not a concern to you, then I think this machine will serve you well.Date published: 2017-03-20Rated 5 out of 5 by Antoine from Pastariffic I bought this pasta maker over a month ago, and have to say it is phenomenal. I have had other pasta makers in the past, but this one is wonderful. Dinner for two in no time...using the ingredients that I want to use...AND experiencing a true taste sensation. Highly recommended.Date published: 2017-03-12Rated 5 out of 5 by NinaNJ from MUST for PASTA LOVERS I bought this two weeks ago, tried all three types this weekend. The pasta quality is great, will never buy pasta again. I also have KitchenAid pasta accessory, there is no comparison with this one.Date published: 2017-02-21Rated 5 out of 5 by BJPinTN from Outstanding! I received my compact pasta maker this week - I had been eyeing the larger Philips machine but just could not use that much pasta for the two of us. Made the first batch last night. It could not be easier - start to finish, had fresh pasta in about 20 minutes. Almost not even enough time to make the sauce! The machine is rock solid with substantial components, powerful and quiet. The smallest details were considered in design, including a special edge on the cleaning tool that reaches crevices. Easy to assemble/disassemble and clean. Now I can make the long spaghetti that is so hard to find in the US market. Definite winner!Date published: 2017-01-21Rated 5 out of 5 by Docmag from Never Buy Pasta Again It was fun, easy, entertaining, and yes Delicious. The clean up was a breeze. This was so much better than our other way of rolling out and taking up the table with flour everywhere and then hanging to dry. Just piles on a cookie sheet, drank wine while we made sauce with fresh tomatoes from the garden and Dinner is served. It did say only makes small batches but this makes enough for 6 easy and let it rest and then run another batch.Date published: 2017-01-15Rated 5 out of 5 by noodlefan from love this machine Purchased this on black Friday of 2016, make pasta twice a week , came out perfect and texture even very close to Chinese hand-made noodle. The only con is it'll be easier to read if measure cup marks in color.Date published: 2017-01-06
