Rated 4 out of 5 by wacko from OK if you take care of it correctly. I've had a couple of this style of cheese cutter. The really important thing about using this cheese cutter is that you NEVER, EVER, EVER PUT IT IN THE DISHWASHER. This causes that plastic wheel to crack and break. It will last a reasonably long time as long as you never put it in the dishwasher. The manufacturer even says that they don't recommend using the dishwasher. You also need to make sure that the wire is very taut ALL THE TIME, otherwise the wire will slip off. Once you do that a couple of times, the wire will no longer stay in place, because you have cause the little track that the wire sits in to wear, making it much easier for the wire to slip off after that. Don't use this cutter on aged cheeses that have a really thick rind, it will cause the wire to break trying to saw through the cheese. Just use a knife on those styles of cheese.Date published: 2018-11-08Rated 1 out of 5 by DMon707 from Another dysfunctional cheese cutter I'd hoped Williams Sonoma would produce a quality cheese cutter that avoided all the usual frustrations of this common tool: the wire slips and balloons out all the time, or just slips out altogether or breaks. This happens because the anchor screws are so small they can't anchor the wire securely and they are impossible to adjust tightly. They need to be wide enough (like a wing nut) to provide leverage and a more slip proof means of anchoring the wire (like a slot in the nut).Date published: 2015-12-13Rated 1 out of 5 by Rata2E from Who cut the cheese? Not OXO. Great heavy gauge product, but they cheaped out on using plastic for the thumb-wheel. Ours cracked. It has been used infrequently. It is two years old, but I expected it to last much longer. Weak design over time or Unrealistic standards? YOU Decide. The store declined an exchange.Date published: 2015-06-27
